Today, I hired 3 guys to castrate my bulls. I stayed home, in the house, trying not to stew about the men and the calves. 4 vehicles left here to go up and do the work.
About an hr after men left, I went outdoors, no Pink.
Looked for Pink for 3 hrs. He is ALWAYS on the porch. Imagined he got run over by one of the men, crawled off into the weeds, injured or dead. I looked and looked and looked.
Guys came down post chute work. PINK WAS IN THE CAR WITH THE VET.
I was SO glad to see him!
Wow, I've really become attached to this dog.
Any of you folks a little nervous about how attached you've become to your dog?
Any of you folks a little nervous about how attached you've become to your dog?
Yes, I am way more attached than is probably good for me. The thought of losing them for any reason, old age, illness, accident, strikes a deep fear in my heart for the pain I know I will go though.
That must have been a terrifying ordeal, Betty, searching for your dog for three hours, imagining the worst. I would have been beside myself with dread.
I'm so glad it turned out well for you. I can easily imagine the enormous relief you must have felt to see Pinker in the vet's car!
A trainer, who has since tragically passed, once accused me of being too close to my German Shepherd, Jody. We lost Jody at 13 years this past winter, and like all our dogs before him it was like losing a human member of the family. You can't have them live with you without being too close. But Betty, your 3 hour hunt must have been terrifying.
And the gift of actual love between species ..... it's astounding to me. We give and receive love to/from other species! It feels miraculous to me.
This is something I often think about with amazement, too. I cannot think of any other two species that have developed such a loving and interactive coexistence with one another.
