Took Kasey for his usual 6 month derma vet check last Thursday. I had found, what the dr called a mass, the week prior to our appointment. I preferred that the derma vet check it out since it's a skin thing so I waited till the scheduled appointment. It's a very dark purplish color and looks like a pea sized blood blister. It was on the front part of the top half of his front leg.
The vet, who I love, said she always tells people she isn't a microscope so she won't make guesses on whether it's malignant or not. She was pretty insistent that it comes off that day though so $300 and some stitches later we left with a cone of shame! Poor Kase. But thanks to Connie we procured a soft cone at Petco that night and it's a lot better. I only put it on when I'm not here to watch him and at night. Every time I put it on he gets an M&M, so believe it or not, he totally thinks that's worth it and comes running to get it on! I cut the toe out of a sock and put that over the stitches when I'm home with him - which is a lot since I work from here.
We are on day 6 of a 7-10 day biopsy wait. If it is malignant we have to go to a special surgeon because of the location, and I guess it's common for that to end in an amputation - which we aren't sure we'd do to him at his age. But we're not going to think that far ahead yet!
Lori, I'm sending positive thoughts and best wishes for good news on this biopsy. The only thing worse than finding something suspicious is waiting for results. I've been through it several times and understand how stressful it is. Hugs to you and Kasey.
SOME things that break and bleed and are icky are "cancer" but not aggressive.Don't spread, don't do anything, the surgery already preformed would be curative.

So keep that thought in your mind!
I asked the vet if that could end up being all that needs to be done if it's malignant and she said for this case more would have to be removed But we are thinking positive till we know.
Thank you everyone for the well wishes and thoughts! It's good to be able to share it with people who understand. I'll let you know as soon as we hear.
