I am to be getting a puppy not too long from now.
I am wondering if it would be best to vaccinate my old dog along with my new puppy.
My dog has not had any vaccinations other than rabies for about 3 years. She has had vaccinations all her life, and I figured she wouldn't really need anymore, I have always believed in "immunity for life after having so many boosters".
But now I am really paranoid..
Should I revaccinate her a couple days before puppy arrives?
What boosters should I look into?

Could the Vet do titer testing on your senior dog, for all the USUAL SUSPECTS other than Rabies, to check for pre-established IMMUNITY continuing from Prior Innoculations ??? I'm WITH You in my fear of "Cumulative Vaccinosis" in older pets
How old is the "senior" - What was her vaccination schedule prior to the 3 year lapse? Annual? Tri-Annual?
Honestly, myself, I don't worry about it. My dogs are fed a high quality, species appropriate diet. They get regular exposure to many things through hikes, walks, classes and travel/competition/shows - I am sure their immune systems are in the best shape they could be at this point
You could definitely titer if you are nervous, it would definitely put your mind at ease either way.
If the old dog is a complete house dog who has gone no where in years and the pup is going to be adopted from a hi-traffic urban shelter, then I'd be thinking about a booster.
I have seen a vaccinated old dog get parvo from a shelter pup who was not sick but came from a shelter where there was a lot of disease.
I probably would not vaccinate my own personal old dog unless the pup was coming from dicey place.
Other then rabies I don't do vaccinations beyond the series of puppy shots.
In order to join a dog class a yr or so ago I had to prove my dog was vaccinated so I did the titer test. It showed he was still protected. He hadn't had any shots other then rabies for 5 yrs.
I was also told that the titer will show positive for 6-8 yrs after the last vaccination and chances are that it's still in the dog's system but it goes into a "memory" cells but it will no longer show on the titer.
One of my brothers verified this for me. He is the head Lab tech at a Lab at one of the bigger hospitals in this area.
Now as for puppy.
Has anybody vaccinated puppy at home? I really am considering ordering separate shots instead of going to the vet for "100way" shots plus rabies the same day.
