hello to all, this is in continuation of my earlier post. i request to help me find out what the issue is which is i am going to explain. this happened two days back. there are some hawkers selling plastic balloons with different faces on them. i was on the morning walk along with my dog. when the dog reached near the bush where the balloons were placed, the dog became scary/fearful but did not exhibit any adverse behaviour except lowering down the tail. till time everything was fine.
yesterday i just came out from home and at a distance of some yards the dog was happy and ok and beyond that he lowered the tail and sniffing in the sky and looking forward and walked hesitatingly. i could not make out.
today morning the same posture was there but this time he moved forward from me like in order to escape from me/ a place to his secured place. i request you to please find out.

I would choose to walk where he can just see the balloons, BUT not this close. Walk where he does not react. Only gradually, start to decrease the distance (gradually!).
You could combine with counter-conditioning, too, but I believe that the desensitizing using distance is going to be sufficient.
I wouldn't just keep doing what you are doing. As he continues to react, it is likely to become more of a big deal, rather than less.
Maybe walk past the end of the street where the balloons are rather than close beside.
And YOU need to not react to the balloons. Don't send anxiety down the leash.
yup , agreed with the advice given above .... by continuing to do the same routine with the dog , you are allowing him to " practice " the unwanted behaviour and get " better " at it .
try this too . . . walk towards the balloons , and as soon as he shows some reaction to the balloons , turn and go in a different direction without any fuss . part of the de-sensitizing process , he will come to understand that every time he sees the balloons , he will not be forced to have to deal with them up close .
and of course , you can use food reward / distraction to teach him to associate the balloons ( and good behaviour ) with good things for him .
hi thanks actually the hawkers are not regulars and i think he is comfortable with the balloons thanks again. one more issue is there. as i read that the pet should not mix with the strays, there is a small pack and is friendly with my dog except one. when the pack runs or plays my dog tries to run along with them. normally i give the treats to the pack also.
