Please take a couple of minutes to enjoy my video tribute to my special family pet Kasper. Comments welcome.
Includes his story on our local newscast, and an incredible stay off-leash command... in the middle of downtown Vancouver with cars rushing past inches from his nose and me across 2 lanes of traffic on the other side of the street...
From flushing toilets to climbing ladders, to his 'appearance' on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Kasper was a special one-in-a-million dog.
My FIRST dog, and he trained me every day LOL
What a clown!
Guaranteed to make you smile !!!

Too funny!
Like I say, watching this short tribute to my well trained FAMILY PET is 5 or 6 minutes out of your life that you'll never get back BUT - you will have a good laugh.
He was a very soft dog, and, ALL training was done by ME, a first time dog owner (which speaks well of the German Shepherd breed's ability to learn) !
He didn't have a hard bite on the bite work, but, DID call off reliably.
Laugh, enjoy, SHARE !

Gary,
Casper looks like he had a very nice life. Good for you for training him and letting him enjoy life. That is what it is all about. Really no title can do more than that.
I have to say the stay on the street with traffic was little unnerving for me. (Especially since he was in an open parking spot in the city...people get crazy.) My old dogs would do it but I would never do it for a demo....only if an emergency ever came up....which it never did.
He was a good boy! And he had Manhatten in his background??? Really ....is that true?? If so, That is wild and quite good. I saw a couple of Manhatten prodigy years ago right after he won Westminster. At that point in time, Manhatten was considered an All Breed GSD show dog. I think he had a CD or something on him as well.

THANKS Joan!
For the record he spent his entire life pretty well always off leash in Vancouver which is second for urban density to only Manhatten - in all of North America.
You are referring to the scene about the 4:30 mark,,,
He was in a no parking zone.
But if you observe closely you'll see both lanes of traffic going in one direction...and....my cat he is standing beside is facing in the WRONG direction?
I came back to my car in the morning to find a ticket on my windshield. The ticket was for PARKING MORE THAN 12 INCHES FROM THE CURB!!!!
There was no mention of parking in the wrong direction and the car behind mine you'll notice is a police car. The sargent couldn't believe what the officer had ticketed me for and of course it all got cancelled.
While I was asleep a BUNCH of rowdies had left the bar down the street (most likely) and had physically lifted and turned my car the opposite direction!!!!
But, yes, he was from Manhatten and quite the spirited soul...
Gary. Canada

Gary,
Glad to hear it was a no parking zone. And pretty funny about your car.
And thank you for sharing your dog's story. All should live such a good life!

Beautiful dog and very well trained. It's great to see someone putting such effort into making a dog so well behaved and trained.
That said, I hate to throw a wet blanket on this post but the thought of walking around a busy city with a dog off leash gives me a bad case of heartburn. First, it's probably in violation of community leash laws. Second, the drivers of the cars and buses don't know how well behaved he is so it's creating a public safety hazard for others as well as your own dog, no matter how well behaved you think he is. Also, other people walking their dogs don't know what he is going to do so it makes them uncomfortable while trying to walk their dogs. It's the old, "why do you get to break the rules when I have to follow the law with my dog?".
Sorry. He is a wonderful looking dog, though, and you should be commended for such a good job of training him. I just wish the off leash work would be confined to areas where such work would be more appropriate and safe, for you and for other dogs. A canine good citizen should be someone who respects that the rules and courtesies apply to everyone.
Again, sorry if I'm ruffling anyone's feathers.
