did not see this clip on page one of this sub-forum. apologies if it has already been posted. if not then this is exhilarating, some have commented that it is cruel, I don't see that in the dog, perhaps the risk is too high and the dog has no choice and some dogs would be traumatised but in this case all looks fine imo.

You know, as a mother, I don't get it.
I don't think the guy should do that, with his dog, or without her.
Life is precious. We will all be dead, soon enough.

Whats the deal?
Why does the dog deserve a better owner? Did the dog look terrified and he still brought him? Dog looked ok to me.
Am I missing something?

Yes, you are if you think doing that to your dog is ok.
If the jerk wants to risk his own life then fine...but to impose that on an animal that has no say in that matter just in the name of fun, thrill of sport is wrong no matter how you spin it.
JMO, but I suspect that most folks here feel the same.
The exception to that would be high end mission military K9s or dogs that are used in extreme rescue S A R work that may require to parachute or repel for access for deployment.

"IF" the dog was properly introduced to the confinement of the back pack and had proper exposure to....whatever is needed to adjust to the situation I have no real problem.
Of course the temperament of the dog has a lot to do with it along with the skills and training of the human.
When I was in SAR with my older GSD and I had rappelled a few times with him strapped by a harness between my knees.
My highest rappel was about 50 60 ft.
We had trained for this at a height of 4-5 ft in order to adjust to getting used to being suspended with no contact with the ground.
It didn't take long at all before it became a game and the dogs would come up to the harness training tripod wagging their tails.
To many adrenaline junkies in my family for me to get to excited over this.

Bob, I have pretty much been an adrenaline junkie most of my life .....not going to start listing the things I have done... but I still would not be ok with this just for fun. To train for this to save human lives...I have no problem.
So I guess we will just have to disagree on this one.

I think in " actuality " the dog would have been just as happy , and his life would have been just as fulfilled if he hadn't gone BASE jumping with the guy who is supposed to protect him from danger .
Part of me thinks the guy is an attention whore , and the fact he felt the need to make a video and post it would support that position .
On the other hand , like some of the posters stated , it is human nature to do things that haven't been done . I felt his reference to " dying together " was a bit telling and does support the argument that perhaps it is a foolhardy pursuit.... if he really does love the dog , why would he expose it to unnecessary risk ?
I've done things with my dogs that some might see as risky : riding snowmobiles , motorcycles , atv's , chairlifts , flying in helicopters and being suspended under them , but it has always been done as a means to get the dog to where he needs to go to do his job .
This appears to be purely to indulge the fantasies of the owner , and I'm sure the dog wouldn't be bonded with the owner any less if he hadn't gone BASE jumping .
I've always examined the behaviours of dogs thusly : is the behaviour or activity something a dog would likely do in its' natural life as a wolf ? Obviously in this case the answer is a resounding and emphatic " No ! "
Dogs will tolerate a great deal of our selfish behaviour , and I think this might be great example of why we should be thankful that dog can't talk .

not having an opinion either way but I will say that to get the level of skills this guy has and not be dead is like the level of dedication to get to the BSP podium 10 years in a row times 10000000.
that much time is not a hobby it is your life, he is simply sharing his life with his best bud, if any of you have owned a good ACD then you will know their life is fulfilled by being in the life of their person 110%, whatever that involves. I would feel worse if the guy was sending the dog on his own then that would be mega-shitte, they are doing it together and I reckon the dog knows that the feeling those to are sharing is about as close as it gets.
I could be wrong.
sorry the clip was found to be so offensive - I do see the points as all valid.
