Is this the frozen raw diet made by Aunt Jeni's? I have used it and it is a good product, it is just too expensive for me to feed 4 adult dogs once I add the shipping fee. The closest place for me to purchase it is a 2 hour drive and the shipping from the manufacturer is prohibitive. If I had easier (and less expensive) access to it I would use it regularly.
Cindi, there are a couple of these fresh frozen foods out there. Do you think they would be good as a suppliment to a regular, very basic, BARF diet.
I feed a simple BARF diet and am thinking that all the funny stuff that goes into some of these producst is too much work for me, but I would like to give the best food I can.
You are super right about the price. It is up there, yet another reason why I'm thinking about it as a suppliment.
I don't feed green trip, ginsng, ginko, hampster heads, kava root, lion's meal, or any of the other goofy things that are in some of these foods. Do you think they are necessary?
I stick to meat, bones, blended veggies, cod liver oil, and other suppliments like gluc and stuff. No tree hugger stuff.
My Mal will eat car tires but when I put Aunt Jeni's down for him, he flips the dish and walks away. It's like a movie trick . I also have been trying to feed this as a suppliment. The pup has been eating high performance Nutro supplimented with turkey necks, chicken hearts etc.. The Aunt Jeni's has a strong odd smell. And no it's not gone bad although it doesn't keep more than three days or so.
My dogs absolutely hate the Home Made 4 Life. They ate if for about the first 2 days and now want nothing to do with it. I've been trying to feed it to them on and off for the past year, and they can't stand it. A better alternative for you might be the Billinghurst foods that are found at http://www.barfworld.com but these are also quite expensive. My dogs will at least occasionally eat this stuff. The good thing about it is that with the Barf Mates, you can mix whatever combination of meat, veggies & tripe that you like.
Hey Van Camp--that's Cindy with a "Y" Mr. Moderator!
My dogs will eat cardboard, plywood, duck poop, etc..... so the taste test is not an issue.
I feed a home made raw diet and have for several years..cheaper and I know exactly what's in it.I don't grind anything except the veggies and they only get those once or twice a week, max.
The only supplements I use is salmon oil, Vit C and occasional probiotic powder. (lazy)
A friend of mine is a distributor for the Homemade 4 Life and that is how I tried it the first time, but like I said before the cost is too high to make it an option for me.
Hello All,
Thanks for the info. I'm sure a homemade barf diet would be best and most cost effective, but the ease offered by these already prepared raw diets would make my feeding it much simpler. Do you think if I started a puppy out early on this (BARF World) packaged food they would take to it. This still seems much better than commercial food, if not as good as homemade.
Any thoughts.

I've used Homemade 4 Life with my puppy
(13 weeks)and she loves it. It's expensive but you can't beat the convience and the ingredients are top quality. I've just orderer Dr. Billinghurst B.A.R.F. diet it's a little cheaper. I still feed the Homemade 4 Life as well. No complaints from me or my puppy.
Where do you live.
