I've had a few problems with mine. The design of the transmitter turns in my hand real easy ans led to me accidentally hitting the vibrate. The vibrate is really strong and would startle my dog. I finally put some epoxy on the button so I can feel the difference.
The dial gets pushed in to lock the level of stim. It didnt work very well. I had to keep pulling the dial part all the way off so i could lock and unlock it. I took it off and stuck a small piece of plastic inside it. I put the dial back on and it now locks and unlocks consistently. Other than those few issues i've been very happy with it. I wouldnt hesitate to purchase another.

Thanks Cathy
The shape of the remote was one concern of mine
the round remote might seem awkward in my hand
but it might be just a matter of getting used to it

I am torn on my opinion. The stim seems to be more humane than the dogtra. I don't see any skin or neck twitching. OTOH I've had a lot of issues with the transmitter not talking to the receiver and being consistent. I've received several replacements from Educator, actually have 2 DOA's sitting on my desk that I've been to lazy to call in.
My dog has high prey and drive, and has blown thru the dogtra at 127 for a retrieve, screaming the whole way. Haven't had to go that high with Educator but he's blown thru it in the 50's. Question is - did it not detonate or did he blow thru it?? Not sure.
But I do like the stim of the Educator - seems to be more humane.

I bought a Mini educator.
I can't quite figure it out, so I havent put it on the dog yet. It seems complicated for an old person, anyway. I can't figure out how to easily change the stim level. I cant be sure that I can be accurate with it yet, be accurate with what I'm telling the collar to do.
The vibrate seems very strong.
I'm sure it wouldn't be hard at all for a young person. I have trouble with my cell phone.
I think I'd have been better with a collar that just had "on" and "off" and levels that dial with a knob.

Used one briefly, when I shouldn't have on my dog... It wasn't mine.
Long story short he ignored stimulation up to 60 before I gave up on the collar. Not sure if thats my dog being hard headed or the stimulation not being high enough.

I use my ET300TS E-collar now for I think 2 years on my GSD.
If the dog doesn't react to it, then most of the time, it doesn't have contact (not tight enough).
Here are my other experiences: The settings are from 0-99. The dog notices constant 9. Me and my wife cannot feel that. He can tolerate constant 80 in high drive without changing his train of thought, but you see muscles twitching.
In a few occasions he squealed as if i stabbed him, when i press any button on the remote, but it was not even turned on. He was obviously messing with me.
I train my dog with markers. He disobeyed, I told him no, he looked at me, i put my finger on the button of the remote, he disobeyed, I pushed the button. He took the hit. He was obviously checking, if the collar was on.
I gave up on the collar. I now use it only as additional recall method (vibrate means come back to me) and on constant 100, if he really disobeys my command and goes to run into traffic, or goes after another dog.
With my dog, I need the collar, if I walk him off leash. I like the ET-400 very much, but I do not use it to train the dog. I have more success for a solid recall with marker training. I can say with confidence, that my dog has the best recall in town, and that has nothing to do with the E-Collar, it was the result of marker training.

Thanks guys for the replys
I've only used the dogtra in non distracting environments so far
Used it only at about level 9 or 10
What I do like about the educator is the jump level feature
Anybody had to use it yet
The light on the collar seems to be a plus as well

I've used the jump feature when Tanner was thinking about chasing some geese. I like that it's adjustable. I have it on a 7 level jump at the moment. When we were first starting I set it at a really low boost.
The buttons have a definite click that can be heard by the dog and calls attention to the transmitter. I really don't like that. I make sure to periodically turn the transmitter off and hit the buttons for a few minutes when we're inside.

It could also simply be that your dog had no idea what it meant. Once they are educated on how to respond to it you often find that the dog DID feel the stim. They just weren't reacting.
