My dog is part fish and forever in the water and on the beach. Cloth collars get stinky and the clasp on leads stop working once they get sand in them one too many times. I bought a waterproof collar which dried quickly and didn't stink but after a few months was rusty. She has another one I found and its ok so far but only been a couple months. Its plain black, id love something cuter.....Anyone know any good waterproof no stink no rust leashes and collars?? I don't wanna waste my money on another flop (ironically her prong hasn't rusted yet but I want an everyday collar I don't have to remove)
Thanks

Look for something made of Biothane or I think Tuff flex may be the brand name of the biothane stapping. Leerburg has some but I think that they're basic brown and orange. If you want different colors, I'd check out Etsy.

looking into it I think I did actually buy her a biothane collar. Got it from some huge outdoor store in the states though and cant remember what its called. Im liking the ones that look like leather though, may have to order a cute one soon

+1 on biothane. I have a biothane leash from leerburg I have used for nearly a year now. It's been used in -40 to +40 and all types of weather in between. On the hunting dogs I train they wear a biothane collar with brass fittings that I make myself, based on the leash from leerburg. None have rusted, stretched, or broke.
Lots of hog hunting dog websites have biothane collars made to last. I have one I bought from the states 3 years ago, and it still looks good as new.

Is brass clips gunna be the best for not rusting? I was disappointed when hers(collar) did within months, she is literally in the water daily though, for a good amount of time, salty ocean water too. Im actually shocked her prong hasn't rusted yet. Also will be interesting to see how the leash clip holds up to the sand that has ruined more leashes than I can count, makes it unopenable.

I didn't take into account your dog would be in the ocean. Steel that's powder coated won't be effected by salt water. I have tried out the stuff you brush onto your truck bed. The coarse black stuff, I have some of that on the metal on one of my collars. Its held up thus far.

Forgive my ignorance. I really have no idea what you just said....are you saying there's something I can buy to spray on the metal part of the collar to help deter rusting? I have zero knowledge about anything vehicle related thanks

Powder coating is a manufacturing process that bakes a coating onto the metal.
The truck coating he's talking about is basically a spray on rubber. Rustoleum sells something similar called LeakSeal and there's another product called FlexSeal that places like WalMart started selling. I haven't used any of them.
I would not want any of the regular spray on rust inhibitor coatings in that close contact to my dogs skin.
This stuff dries once applied and seems to work well. I used the regular version on my guns and knives.

Yeah that was a poorly Constructed post. Oops.
It comes in a can from Canadian tire. It's black, and rough when it dries. Doesn't chip and doesn't allow rust to penetrate it. It's in the automotive section. I have used it on a necklace to make sure it doesn't negatively effect skin. It's fine on myself. The collars I make have no metal points which come into contact with the dogs skin. So I dont know if it will do anything to the dogs skin.
