hi everyone,
i wanted to know few things about breeding my female gsd..my gsd female is 19months old now .i bred her 6 months ago at her 2nd heat circle on 13th nd 14th day frm the start(heat)day and finally she had no litter due to false pregnancy,i asked my vet should i breed her again in next heat circle and the vet advised me to change the male dog for breeding and attempt one more time,he also advised to give her two human medicines since she starts the blood drops to till the breeding date(which are iveon400 for vitamin E & aquasol-A for vitamin A )..i want to know what are the affects of these meds with breeding and how it works although i did how the vet advised and finally i bred her on 6&8 january2015 ,hope this time she wont have the false pregnancy..can anyone tell me what is the exact day to breed a female from her date of heat circle jst bcuz we dnt have any good labs in here so that i can go through the tests as Ed says...

Breed your dog on the 9th and the 11th day of her cycle, counting from the first day that you see blood drops and swelling of her vulva. Or, better yet, breed her every other day from the 9th day until she will no longer stand for the male.
The female is taken to the home of the male.
Be certain that there is a mating tie. Do not just put the two dogs together and hope for the best.
Use an experienced stud dog.
The vitamins help with fertility by ensuring that there is adequate raw material to prepare the uterus for the implantation of the eggs.

If I want to skip progesterone testing (which is the easiest way to tell EXACTLY when ovulation occurs), then I breed day 9, 11, 13, 15 so long as the female will stand for those days.
I do let my male tell me, especially if he is here anyways. So far my boys haven't been wrong

If she doesn't take you could try these next time

As long as you have someone to draw the blood and spin it, you can use these home tests for progesterone.
Good luck with your dam!

NO, just feed a balanced diet. Increase her food once you know for sure she is pregnant, around 40 days.
NO extra calcium prior to whelping, this can lead to hypocalcemia following whelping, which can be fatal to the dam.

I'll be the bad guy. Don't breed your dog at all. Please.
If you were really ready and prepared to breed her, you would already know the answers to these questions. I think it is horribly reckless that you are just going to learn-as-you-go, risking the life and health of your dog in the process, and add to the over-population of unwanted dogs. I've been to India. The country is overrun by dogs nobody wants and there are no services to care for them.

asit , have you already got screened clients with proven home situations to place these puppies ?
I'm of the opinion that unless all the ( prospective ) puppies have already been placed into good proven well screened home situations , breeding should be left to the proven breeders who are doing so for the best interests of their chosen breed .
if you want to get into it , find someone in your area who is breeding and see if they will let you help them out . . . learn from someone else who has done it before , and has a level of expertise .

I'm with Tracy on this. Not to mention that you stated that you bred her the first time at 13 MONTHS OLD! SERIOUSLY?! ( she's 19 months old now & you bred 6 months ago..that says the 1st breeding was at 13 months old)
That poor dog. I'm glad that it didn't take. She was still a baby.
