Hey a fun question
How do you all exercise your dogs ? What type of dogs do you have.
I mean daily. How long and what do you do with them. And after the exercise is done how long do they " rest " . I am just curious to get some ideas . let's have some fun .
In preparation for summer I am running my dog/clients dogs 100 miles a week. Not a typo 15 miles/day.
In addition to this They also are walked on lead 2or3 hours a day dependant on the weather.
Retrieval training and such as well.
This is split up into three or four outings a day. The dogs usually have a 30 minute nap after settling down at home. Then they eat and it's back to doing something. I have an Australian cattle dog mix, the dogs I'm training are all hounds or retrievers. All high energy and love the exercise
My boys - 5 yo Malinois, 2.5 yo Malinois mix with bad hips
6 days a week of 'work' - 2 nights walking with a pack on, 2 nights with a 2.5 mi run with the Malinois, 2 nights marker training in the house or yard depending on the time of year (outside if there is still light, inside if not) then extra training on the weekend. 1 night of free for all with all the toys flying around the house.
This relaxed schedule is only because they get along and tire each other out wrestling in the mornings - they get about 5 hours of outside time and when they come in around 1 pm, they both sack out and sleep on the floor for 1-2 hours when I work from the home office 5 days a week.
Ideal for our situation would be a run or swim every morning, a walk every night and training 2-3x daily for 5 minutes each time.
Oh, fun! Also we get a lot of stuff shipped to us so I always have loads of boxes. A favorite game of Chance's is for me to put a bunch of boxes on the floor and throw balls into them so he can root through and get them out. He started this on his own, I just extrapolated It's 0 impact and I don't have to worry about anything getting broken since I'm tossing em anyways!

If it's too cold or wet to hike in the park (our usual activity), mine can be drained of excess energy by playing hide and seek in the house.
I put them all in a sit-stay--then I hide one of their favorite toys. After the toy is hidden, I go back and release them ("Find it!"), and they all search the house til one of them finds the toy and brings it back to me. (Cinco usually wins)
Half an hour of this has them all pretty worn out mentally and physically.
I have three personal dogs two GSD's and a Mal. I also have horses. I take my dogs with me when I ride. The Mal comes with but keeps out from under foot where as the gsd is always right beside me. But oh do they love it when I go ridding .
