My browser at work won't bring up the video but just from the title I'd say this is an irresponsible BYB as the dog does not even meet the breed standard.
If you think the dog is ludicrous, check out the comments below. Uneducated nutjobs create a market, and some other nutjobs decide to capitalize. This is not a reflection of the majority of breeders (including local small-time breeders) that I know, and i don't think it's a reflection of the breeders that manage and participate here. Let's not forget that Michael Ellis, who so many here respect, is a breeder.
We throw around the term BYB like it's an insult. What else would you call a local breeder who never has to leave his own circles or region to sell his dogs, yet still strives to maintain quality lines and follows up on all the pups he sells, including offering extended training? Not to mention that he takes extremely good care of all his dogs and never breeds just to sell pups?
I've trained with a local Pit Bull breeder who is carrying lines that his grandfather started. Three generations and they have managed to avoid the bully craze and maintain some standards. Because he is trying to preserve his lines, he is very picky about the future of each pup he sells.
Thanks for the discussion. I wish that it would result in the general animal loving public finding more specific and appropriate adjectives for dog fanatics, so that the good are not lumped in with the bad.
IMHO, this is basically a "designer dog" mixed-breed made up of American Bulldog, Pit Bull, and heaven only knows how many different kinds of mastiff out-crosses such as Presa Canario or whatever else
From what I've heard discussing this with Pit Bull people, the Bully is mostly selectively bred from oversized Amstaff and PB stock.
IMHO, that much extra SIZE & WEIGHT also comes from an admixture of other Very Large smooth-coated molosser breeds, whether openly confessed or surreptitiously done
