I'm looking for a good GSD for family and sport. Have been looking at Van den Heuvel k9. Dari seems very knowledgeable, friendly and honest. The breedings I'm looking at are Fida/Drago and Hexe/Dario.
Any thoughts out there?
Thanks.

posting actual breeding tests would be less lazy and giving a bit more detail on your goals would get more comments.
VH are an established larger operation that have been around in various forms for a long time.
dari has a rep of finding what you ask for.
with any bigger breeder they will have produced good and bad and made enemies and friends, it is inevitable.
sorru I do not get what family and sport means, to me that is just a cull.
that type of consumer demand is what is destroying the breed.
there should only be extreme dogs and that's is all a breeder should breed for, at the statistical tail end some will be a family/sport dog and they should be neutered.
dari seems like good people and has had some nice studs and bred some nice dogs.
best I can do with such a vague post.

WTH Peter??? You insult the OP by calling him lazy and vague? You seriously believe that a dog with a decent amount of sporting ability but social enough to be good with family is a cull??? That only extreme dogs should be bred and everything else is ruining the breed???
Mitch, I'm sorry the above was the only response you got to your first post here. Honestly, there are nicer people here. But if you want to talk specific breeders, and where you might find the kind of dog you're looking for, I think you would be better served over on the German Shepherd forum.

hey at least I had enough respect for the OP to respond in an honest manner after repeated bumps.
he can agree, disagree, ignore.
and yes that is my honest opinion, breeders should breed only the maniac wild animals, too much striving for mediocrity going on.
others opinions will differ, I financially support what I support, others are free to do as they see fit.

Peter,
Mitch Allen, the OP, asked about the breeder, or so I interpreted the beginning of the thread.
Did you have too much coffee today?
I presume most of the lurkers here have no experience with the breeder, hence no responses. I, for one, have little problem or much self control when it comes to opining. But when you don't even have an iota of information to share, well, better not to.
It seems to me the OP has an idea of the type of dog he wants. He just wanted to know if the breeder was reputable or what?
Not knowing how much tongue in cheek you are writing with, I would just observe there are entirely too many disreputable breeders who think the lunatic fringe type of animal is an appropriate goal for their inbreeding practices.
I think Mitch is doing just the right thing by looking to various sources for commentary. It seems to me this site is a good source of information. Bringing a dog into the family is a big deal and should be an act done with due deliberation.
For my part, I'm trying to get used to the new keyboard of my new laptop, and it is very frustrating. My tip would be to back up your files in the cloud and on a drive and not rely on the indestructibly of your computer's internal hard drive. And that is a lesson hard learned.

anything more specific will require more specific questions.

Cheri
Thanks for the support here.
I think Peter was way off base and wouldn't ask his advise on anything.
A good family dogs that has strong drive and fearless nerve can make an excellent family pet too.
That's what I'm looking for and hope Peter gets some well deserved rest.
