Hello everyone,
I am trying to figure out what is the cause of my great nf anesthesia hair loss around her eyes. She is steadily loosing hair around one eye and yesterday was the first day it looked red. Her actual eye looks fine.
Most common lesion this site is demodex, a form of mange common in pups, not itchy, Google it.
For this we begin by boosting the pups overall immune system, checking for worms, improving the diet etc. Ivermectin type products can be used too, others as well. Don't want demodex to get out of hand. Usually managed early it is controlled, many pups "grow out of it"--susceptibility runs in families, ask the breeder if it's been a problem.
But - another question - is this site often wet? Sometimes a problem with a tear duct will have tears spilling over on to the face which can lead to a little skin infection (staph) and hair loss. Could be ringworm too- which is a "skin mold", basically -- like athletes foot--that would be treated with a topical ointment.
Bottom line -- if this gets any worse at all--check with your vet. But don't worry, the face has tremendous blood supply and lesions there heal really fast.
Some dobermans have congenital alopecia -- places where the hair just doesn't grow -- no disease, just how they are --especially blue dobermans -- but your pup is pretty young for that......
Bottom line - if it gets any worse at all--visit your veterinarian.
Is your pup a blue Doberman ??? My son had our blue rescue Duke for 10 years, until he crossed the Rainbow Bridge last summer at the age of 12 -- Duke had quite a good coat for a blue Dobie, which we like to believe was at least partially due to us feeding him a GOOD DIET, providing regular exercise, and maintaining a LOW-STRESS environment ... He never had Demodex, but any dog can get that, or trouble with a tear duct (or whatever).
