Is it easier on a dog to walk on grass vs pavement?
IF you're suggesting 8 HOURS every day in a Kennel Run, then I would NOT recommend any stone-hard surface, Christian -- Too much impact on feet & joints But if you mean a Casual Walk around town on pavement or grass, then "six of one / half a dozen of the other"...
Not sure what is meant by the question. Are we talking about a puppy or a mature dog? Does the activity involve just walking or is there running or other exercise also? We try to vary the surfaces on which we exercise or walk our dog so she is used to all of them. That said, I would recommend caution when exercising, running or walking a puppy on a paved surface until their pads and joints can take the added stress. Also, in the summer heat, walking on hot pavement is pretty brutal on a dog's pads so we make sure we do our walks early in the morning or in the evening. That's where walking on grass or dirt is much gentler.
