What are some of the views of the best puppy kibble out there? I am not looking for info on Raw. I know to some of you out there that is like asking the question which would you rather be...punched in the face, or kicked inthe stomach? When asked for a top kibble. But 'bear' with me here. Innova, ProPlan, ProPac, Bil-Jac, Royal Canin Natural Blend, Size, Sensible Choice...What is the best and why?
Todd, you might want to check out this website, it's pretty useful in the breakdown of ingriedients in many different brands of kibble. http://www.doberdogs.com/foodcht4.html
I've had great success with the Natural Balance myself, Wellness isn't too bad either.
Hi Todd,I use a mix with http://www.canidae.com as a base why? Because the meat vs meal thing makes sense to me as far as any raw meat you feed will contain far more water than protein,vs the meal which isnt even weighed until after the water has been removed. It also contains only human grade ingredients.By the way, whats the story on the solid black male you were considering? I have'nt seen him work but I did get to meet him,and based on first impressions and looks alone he seems awesome.
So, what happens if you take a 9 month old puppy who has been fed raw most of its life, and switch it to one of these brands? Would you do it "cold turkey", or gradually?
I have switched puppies who had been on an all-raw diet to Canidae cold turkey and had zero problems. My dogs now get raw on weekday mornings, Canidae kibble in the evening. I also shipped 2 puppies 2 years ago to an all-raw feeder, so they were switched from Canidae-only to all-raw cold turkey, again, zero problems. I think Canidae is the best food out there for the price.
Years ago I trial fed Wellness, and my dogs did not digest it that well. One dog even didn't like its flavor. Same for Innova, I had too much 'output' for my liking, and it was too expensive a food to have to keep picking up after my dogs like that.
Canidae is fine for pups - I feed it and/or Eagle Pack Natural - pups are raised on one or the other, whichever I am able to stock up on! Pups should NOT be fed high protein 'puppy food' - in fact, the Eagle puppy for large breed is only 23% I think!
