I came across a friend's dog who has a huge mass on its elbow. It's soft and the dog doesn't seem in pain runs around like nothing happened. We suspect it's a hygroma does anyone know anything about them? My friend is a veteran and the puppy was neglected while he was in basic training mostly crated from my understanding.

My leonberger Ellie had an elbow hygroma when she was younger. Soft, fluid-filled sac that didn't seem to cause any discomfort. Our vet suggested it was because she was laying on a hard surface (the kitchen floor). We gave her a soft kitchen bed. The hygroma went away by itself and never returned.
Kiss, my puppy, had one on his right elbow and it took about 4 months to completely disappear. You can try icing it and massaging it. That seemed to help my guy's disappear quicker.
Some vets want to stick a needle in to drain them but my breeder said to avoid that as there is a greater chance of infection that way and then you have a whole other mess to deal with.
When you say massage do you mean the actual hygroma or the area around it. I've actually have read in different forums that ruNing warm water on it would help...
