Sasha and I have been working on SDDA stuff. SDDA - Sport Detection Dog Association. This is the Canadian equivalent to Nosework in the States.

We entered a trial this past Saturday and did super. Started scent is wintergreen and to get your title you have to pass three components; containers, interior and exterior. Sasha has only ever done one search outside but I figured we go for it anyways.

The container search she was pretty erratic and all over the map but the found the scent quickly. We lost one point for "inconsistant searching".

The interior search again we lost a few marks for inconsistent searching and poor leash handling but still managed to get a respectable mark of 54 out of 60.

The exterior search went really well. Found the hide in 56 seconds and only lost 3 points. Three successful searches = Started title.

Because we were able to do all three components in one day under the same judge, we get to add SP (Special) to our title.

Just for fun we did Advanced containers and smoked that one too. Yipee!!!

Now I have to teach Sasha a formal indication or keep using the "freeze, look at me and look back at the hide" as an indication.

henry and i have done a one week introductory course here at MES as part of the immersion course .

we have a final focused response and the very beginnings of proofing that response . so much fun to see the dogs' really embracing the work . . . will probably get a kit and continue with it when we get home and work our towards a title . highly recommended activity for anyone looking to have some instinctive fun with their dog .

Candi, congrats too!!! I envy you. I'd love to do something like that with Socks, who seems to be talented. But I get no course here in this region and I myself do not understand anything about scent work. I play Hide and Seek, which they all love, and on a walks I let drop a wallet, a toy etc. and Socks always immediately reacts.That's all. Do you know if there exists a DVD or course about this? Sounds like lot of work but fascinating and great fun!
