To those who weren't on here when I began posting --- when our Pinker, an ACDxchihuahua,
was a pup, you couldn't touch him. More than puppy gnawing, he'd fly into rages...he was also fearful, really just dreadful. Basically awful. Without Leerburg, I'd have put him down.
Well, ya should have seen him in Palm Beach these last 2 wks! Our second visit to the condo, he was the man about town. Old ladies could touch him. He liked the Fifi dogs straining on their lexi leads. He swam in the sea, fetched sticks. Got rinsed with the condo hose. Didn't care to venture too far from the condo on walks, and wasn't a fan of the 4th of July fireworks, but other than that was a perfect dog.
Came home, moved cattle in 10 degrees and a ton of snow.
He's the perfect dog. I thank you all so much for your help!!!!!
It's amazing how a little of maturity, loads of patience and education on your part, and lots of training and work can make an impossible dog come around to being well behaved. Our Bailey was also a terrible pup, maybe not to the extend you experienced with your Pinker, but we entertained the same thoughts about not keeping her or having her put down. Like you, I am also greatly indebted to this great website and forum. Saved her life and helped me to become a much better dog owner and handler. She still has her moments but she has also matured into a wonderful, happy, well behaved dog.
So, you think Pinker ever sits down and thinks back to those awful days and what a terror he was, maybe with a little regret or appreciation for all your efforts?
Betty, I whole-heartedly ECHO all you said about owing a Huge Debt of GRATITUDE to everyone associated with Leerburg, including our Regular Posters here on the boards -- Heaven only knows what kind of mess I might have made raising & training my Akita girl, "Shock & Awe" SHAKA, without this site (just wish I'd had Leerburg way back in my Basenji days!) ... Fast-forward to life now with integrating 2 adult rescue Dobermans, and I shudder to think how things could have turned out for my female (Adobe) if it weren't for all y'all, so THANK YOU doesn't even begin to express my Appreciation
