Hi All ! It's been a very LONG time since I've visited the forums here. I do have a question regarding the results of Kaiser's resent parvo titer.

He's 7 and has only had the vaccines that were provided him at the breeder and rabbies which is required by law. He is on an all raw diet and other than the occasional hot spot he's in awesome shape.

So, his parvo titer came back negative - but because it was a titration titer I don't know how far from the threshold his antibodies are. I've made sure that he has had annual exams including titer series each year. This is the first time one has resulted in a negative reading.

I'm sure his immune system has B-cells and T-cells but without further testing ( a challenge test probably to determine his immune response - which I prefer not to do ) I'm not sure of any other way to measure this.

I'm trying to avoid giving him a single parvo booster if I can.

So dear folks with more brains than me on these things - chime in and let me know what you think and what you think I should consider - if anything.

Was the titer just low or non-existent?

The titer test can be negative but the dog can still be protected.

Most will still respond to a positive for 7-8 yrs before it disapears in what are called memory cells.

The protection is still there but not show on the titer test.

Problem is that, as mentioned by the op, it's really hard to test for if at all.

I've been informed that the lab can perform another test which will give a number so I've instructed them to perform it. We'll know in about 7 days.
