I have built kennels on a concrete pad for my 2 dogs. I also added artificial turf to a portion of each kennel. Any suggestions on how to let my dogs know that it is ok to relieve themselves in their kennel?

Well, not to be crude, but...
If you go in there & pee on the astro-turf yourself WHILE THEY WATCH your "tutorial", they might get the idea PDQ

It's not uncommon for some dogs to hate messing in their own pen.
Get a piece of cotton or a rag and soak up the pee from another dog.
Put that in the run with your dog and they should try and mark over it.
Praise the heck out of them.

Boys, Girls!
Ian, your method is very radical, shame on you!
Bob, your advice sounds rooted in reality. But frankly, I'd have expected Candi's idea coming from you!
Candi, it seems to be a very practical problem solving, though it might also be a tutorial for neighbors and passersby , depends on the type of fence you have!

My dog's wouldn't dare mark over the top of mine.
I also have a 6ft privacy fence all around my back yard.
......Not that I'd take advantage of that.....

As far as Ian's idea about the fire hydrant, you can buy plastic ones that can be filled with sand for weight. I don't know anyone personally who has used one in a kennel, but I have heard of people putting them in their yards to designate a preferred area. Might be worth a try.

Really? Sounds incredible for me. Probably I have a wrong idea about fire hydrants. Thought it was something, that would explode and shock the dog. Will have to google to inform myslf better.
Sorry, Ian, for grumbling at you!

In the U.S. and Canada, a fire hydrant is an above-ground device connected to an underground municipal water supply, and they carry a lot of water pressure. When the fire department responds to a fire, they hook up very large fire hoses that are carried on their trucks to the fire hydrant, and they use them to help put out the fire. They usually look like this:

Christina, I guess I didn't realize, living in Switzerland and Brazil, that you have never seen a fire hydrant. In North America, for some reason, dogs are very attracted to them when people take them on walks, and they like to urinate on or near them. It's kind of a running joke here.
eta: Of course dogs like to urinate on trees, fence posts, etc., so I guess they consider fire hydrants fair game, too, kind of like a short red tree.
