Hey everybody - I'm looking for some advice on treating a puppy with diarrhea. I know that for my adult dogs I usually rest their systems for a day with just water and broth before starting to add bland foods back in, but my puppy is 5 & 1/2 months old (43 lbs) and eats 3 times a day. Resting his digestive system for a whole day seems like a long time. Would soupy THK Embark be ok? His diarrhea is really watery right now but he seems like he feels ok otherwise, and he was fine yesterday so this has just come on in the past 20 hrs or so.
Don't know how old this pup is but....in young pups dirrhea can be very serious, even deadly very fast. If it is a young pup a vet visit would be the best advice. Young pups do not have the bodily reserves that an older dog has to weather a bout of diarrhaea.

When our puppies have suddenly gotten diarrhea that's watery there has usually been a problem like a bacterial infection or parasites. I'd definitely head for the vet. If they were just like pudding but not watery I might mess with it for a few days at home with bland food, but not watery.

Thanks for the advise you guys. As luck would have it, this was one of those times when the problem solved itself! He had the squirty diarrhea around 3pm yesterday and I only gave him water throughout the afternoon. By the time I was able to take him for a walk in the evening, he had a solid log, so I guess he'd blasted out whatever was bothering him. I fed him 2 bland meals last night and another one this morning just to be safe. He has since had another solid log, so I think he's on the mend and I can start working his normal food back in.
One good thing (I don't know if you guys noticed it in my original post) is that he's 43 lbs and nearly 6 months old, so he has much better energy reserves to tolerate this kind of thing than a teeny tiny puppy.
