At the weekend, a facebook friend posted an emergency plea from a small shelter, asking if anyone would be prepared to take Maggie, a young Boerboel, who had been bred every season, left with hideous joint and skin problems, then dumped at the shelter when the thing that owned her couldn't be bothered to care for her anymore. She was in an emaciated state, her fur falling out, and was so damaged in her rear end, she could no longer toilet without pain.
The fantastic people at the shelter quickly realised Maggie was not going to be able to start a new life somewhere else, and yesterday, they laid on the floor with the vet, while Maggie made her final journey.
Everyone is sick to their stomachs, gutted she couldn't be saved, and beyond enraged that this scum would do this to her, by all accounts, she was sweet, gentle, and desperately tried to eat what was offered, but she was too weak.
I hope the piece of s##t that owned her is one day in pain, frightened, in despair and alone, that might go someway to balancing the scales.
I wish I could have met Maggie, and stroked her soft head, and told her, not every human was bad.
Sleep in the sun at the Bridge girl, you touched an awful lot of hearts.

So sad that some people give up their animals so carelessly. I feel sorry about that poor dog. If people only knew how much joy they will get back for giving a good home and good care to such a pitiful creature.
When I saved my two strays from the street, everyone warned me and said this was a hopeless attempt. But I never regretted it it. I have now two wonderful dogs, who bring such a lot of pleasure in my life.

Maggie is SAFE & WELL in God's Arms now, but heaven won't help her Evil Owners where they'll end up when it's their turn to leave this world, IMHO
Rest in PEACE, sweet ol' Girl !!!

Absolutely! If there exists a higher energy or something like that, then it will care about the sort of animals too.

I don't know why this one dog got to me, after all, it is a daily occurrence it seems....
Maybe it is because she was a Boerboel, and looking into those eyes reminded me of my boy, but I just can't get over how odious and reprehensible humans can be to a defenceless animal, that they CHOSE to bring into their lives.
I will never understand

No one who loves animals will ever understand. But unfortunately there are more PIECES OF SH##T how you call them appropriately than we think.
I can see this here frequently. Dogs, cats and other pets are euthanized just because they get for one reason or other uncomfortable for their owners.
Some owners when they move away, leave them simply behind, no one looking after them.
Others produce lots of puppies (in order to make money) and those whom they can't sell will be abandoned. Why make such a fuss about a stupid animal!
Thanks God not all people are like this. But it really makes feel sick!

My Grandfather once told me a story. I had asked him what happens when animals die. He told me about the Rainbow Bridge, and St. Francis waiting there for them until their loving owners could come and they spend the rest of eternity together.
I had asked this when we lost Sam, a dog that we had saved from a life on a chain. I asked a follow up question - what about animals like Sam had been - those that nobody loved?
He said that there are people who love animals, but they can't be with them on Earth because of various reasons - allergies, etc. Those people get to the Bridge, and St Francis lets them pick as many of the previously unloved animals as they want, and they will spend eternity together.
So, I believe that Maggie will find someone that will love her for eternity - or maybe she will wait for you, Tracey... sometimes our hearts connect with an animal we have never met - I experienced that with Faith - who are we to question the Universe?
I also believe in Karma, and this POS will get what is coming to him. There is a special place in Hell just for him.

YES, that would be Level 17 of Chinese Hell where Adolf Hitler and my ex-husband (among countless others) get to suffer throughout Eternity for their cruel abuse of Innocents during their stint in this world -- They have an unavoidable view of all the animals & people in Heaven, but thankfully, we will all be Blissfully UNAWARE of Them ... There IS Justice for those who Show NO Mercy, IMHO

Yes, I do hope so too. But who knows this for certain? And it doesn't release suffering people or animals from human cruelty. It's only justice afterwards. I'd prefer if a higher being would prevent this.

Rest in peace, sweet Maggie, and I'm sure you will not have to wait long at the Rainbow Bridge for a kind and loving human to open their arms and their heart and welcome you into their family.
Thanks to the shelter that took her in and, even though they were unable to save her, gave her the final kindness of releasing her from her pain. My heart breaks for Maggie and all the other dogs like her.
