We woke up on Sunday morning to discover that Tyra was unable to use her back legs. We've been battling Cancer for about a year, and it finally won. We were tired, and Tyra was tired. We let her go to the Bridge this morning.
Tyra came to live with us when my brother's wife decided that she no longer wanted her. My brother told me he had tried to find her a home, but nothing came up so he would have to take her out and shoot her. I drove right over there and took her home.
Paul fell in love almost immediately and she became his dog. He cared for her, he trained her, and he made the ultimate decision... he held her the whole time...
Last fall, Tyra earned her Dock Novice title at 13 years old. She would have been 14 in June.
A video of her jumping (and going to the end of the pool just to show that she could) : https://www.facebook.com/kelly.franks.58/videos/1211267685580865/
It is harder, I think, coming on the heels of losing Caterina... though no matter what, it's never easy...
Give your critters hugs today and everyday. Never let a moment go by that you don't let them know how special they are.

Oh, Kelly, I'm heart sorry for you both, so soon after Cat, you must be numb.
She looked like such a pretty girl, and she landed on her paws when she came into your lives, bless you both, and bless Tyra, free from any pain, and running around with the other darlings who went before her.
I send you my love, and my deepest condolences.

This makes me cry, Kelly. It was so good to hear that Paul and you adopted Tyra. So sad it had to end like this. It must be heartbreaking for you to loose two dogs within such a short time.
I'm sure you took the right decision and I know how much it hurts, when one has to decide over life or death. And all this after Tira had made you smile again after Caterinas death. Never forget that you two have given a wonderful rest of life to her. I found this so admirable.
So you're in a mourning phase again. But I'm sure the next dog is waiting for you somewhere and will make you smile again once you're ready.
Yes I do hug my dogs every day. And here a very distant but not less heartily one from me.

Kelly, my heart goes out to you and Paul. I can't imagine the pain of losing two dogs in such a short time. Tyra was so lucky you rescued her and gave her the life she deserved. What an inspiration she was, with her zest for living! You gave her so much love and enjoyment in her life, and I know you feel she gave just as much back to you. Rest peacefully, Tyra........

Kelly,
Good for you and Paul for taking in Tyra.
Words. What useless things when trying to offer up some sentiments.
I looked at Tyra and thought immediately of my lost Freya. I feel the pain again. I am so very sorry for your loss.
I often say, 'just a dog' but mean I miss the poor creature so.
Words. What useless things...

I love that clip of Tyra winning her Dock Novice title.
Tyra has a beautiful face.
You and Paul blessed her life and she blessed yours. As Bob Scott says, they are worth every tear.
I'm so sorry, Kelly. My heart is with you.

Great, great movie. And how he demonstrates it!
To which point do you think a dog notices he has won a title? Of course not like humans.
But I'd love to know how they react. Great vid!

I just found this clip of Tyra's personal best jump from the trial 9'10" - if you look close, you will see she actually caught the toy

You will see our friend Steve in the pool with her - he was always in the water with her because it was hard for her to get up the ramp so he would give her a boost. She had lots of fans

Am just now seeing this, because I was offline on vacation for 10 days, Kelly -- I can't get over people who decide they no longer want an elderly dog & then view Personally Shooting It as a viable option ... No offense, since we can't control our relatives or dictate anyone else's values, of course
THANK YOU for giving Tyra a Wonderful life in your home with many exceptional achievements for her -- Hugs & Tears aplenty to share with you and Paul ... God Bless !!!
