Sooooo, you may or may not have noticed that I've been away for a little while.

On May 4th, I got a new right hip joint. I've been in lots of pain for years now, and when I went in to the doc he said that I am severely dysplastic and need new hips. The worst was the right so that was the first one to be replaced.

Went in to the OR at 830am on the 4th, and left the hospital at 1230pm on the 5th. I was up and walking within 2 hours of the surgery. unbelievable!

There has been some pain - I'm not going to say there wasn't, but it is not nearly as bad as it has been the last few years. I am still on crutches, but getting around on my own for the most part... if i have shed tears, it has been out of frustration (like when i can't tie my own damn shoes).

Paul and the dogs have been amazing through it all. Paul is not normally a nursemaid type, but he's doing his best. He did leave me alone, on crutches, in the middle of a store, but in his defense, I get snappy if he's pushy anyway

The dogs have been very quiet - wanting to be near, but definitely cognizant of the injury and avoiding that side. Even Fennec has been awesome - Paul moves her around on leash so she doesn't jump on me, and she will pull like a draft horse to get to me, and once I touch her nose, she sits quietly at my left side.

All in all, I think everything is going well - I can't wait to get the other one done in 3 months so that I can actually do stuff with the dogs again

Oh WOW, Kelly, no wonder you've been off the Forum radar for a bit -- Dogs are the BEST, but sometimes a Significant Other can be great as well So glad to hear it "hasn't been TOO terrible" and that you are still anxious to have the OTHER one done soon...

Kelly, I seem to remember you may have mentioned needing this type of procedure a while back. I'm glad to hear the first surgery has gone smoothly. I know you've got a ways to go yet, and a second surgery to go through, but it sounds like you have a great support system and a pack full of motivation to get moving again! I believe it's a special kind of torture for most of us on this board when we are unable to do the activities we love and enjoy with our dogs. Wishing you a continued speedy recovery!

Miss Kelly, sorry you had to have surgery, but glad all is well! I guess the next is conveniently planned after the puppy class?

Kellyyyyyyy! What an awful story! Yes I wondered why we didn't hear from you again and was ready to ask if someone knows why. But I'm happy to hear that the first part has been so positiv.

Shame on Paul to leave you alone on crutches!!! I know such things happen.
On the other hand kudos for looking so good after the dogs.

I wish you with all my heart that the second part will also have such fabulous results.
But I guess it will need some time. How awesome that the dogs are so considerate. Amazing! I'm sure it must have been very difficult for you to be without them.

The one night that I spent in the hospital was the absolute LONGEST night EVER! I couldn't wait to get home to see the dogs!

The dogs were crazy excited when I first got home, but once they realized that I was injured, they calmed right down. It was awesome to watch. Even Fennec who was absolutely frantic to get to me- she was even yipping. Once I touched her nose, she settled in to lick, lick, lick - but very gently.

Cute that they missed you so much!
