This is just a bit of grumpiness... I'm so tired of summer. I know it's part of living in Texas and the rest of the year is amazing, but when we have had a month of 100's- either actual temp or heat index- it wears on you. I have cabin fever in reverse- too hot to go outside and do much. You know it's bad when 90* at 45% humidity feels nice...
Tough doing training with the dogs and I'm always worried about going places with them. Is the pavement going to be too hot? Have I packed enough water? Will there be any shade? etc., etc. Plus I can't carry them if they get tired, lol. We have been going out in the early morning or after dusk and playing lots of games inside on the weekends.
I feel for you Carolyn (and Bob). Here in my part of Michigan, we've been lucky this summer. Only a few hot spells into the 90s. The biggest issue we're dealing with now is no rain. My lawn is brown and crispy. We've only had about 1/3 of an inch of rain so far this August (about 3 and 3/4 is normal). July was an inch or so below normal. There will be rain in the forecast, we see it on the radar, but by the time it reaches my town, it splits around us or breaks up and goes away.
The good part is we have no mosquitoes. We don't have to mow the lawn. I can easily see the dog poop when picking up the yard.
It's always tough trying to get the dogs to understand when we can't go outside and do our regular activities with them, due to heat, cold, rain, etc. It sounds like you're doing everything you can, going outside during the coolest (relatively speaking) times and finding ways to entertain them indoors.
I'm not much of a summer person myself so I feel for you. I do much better in the other seasons. Fortunately, we've been blessed this year by a much cooler and wetter summer so it hasn't been too bad. This week is just starting to revert to our normal higher temps and humidity and you can tell our dog, Bailey is the same way. She wilts fast in the heat so we have to be real careful on how hard we let her play and exercise in the heat. One episode of almost having heat stroke was enough to scare the pants off us. Kind of limits what we can do with her outside and when. Thanks goodness for dock diving!
I too hate the heat here (Brazil) especially because it's a very humid heat. But right now I'm hating winter time. This year and last year we had rain rain rrrrrrrrrain. I feel frozen all the time, although I'm Swiss and used to really hard winters.
But after being here almost eight years my body got used to higher temperatures. The first three years I was laughing at the freezing Brazilians, but in between I too need my thick old bedcover. We have no heating here.
