Just curious - and for humorous, entertaining discussion - are GSD puppies ever peaceful and cuddly?
For some reason I had this mental image of puppies being cuddly. What we got was a cute ball of fur with incredibly sharp teeth that would never sit still (until she passed out) and ate non-stop, lol. She is becoming more affectionate as she gets older but wow was I wrong . Is this just GSDs in general?
Are there other breeds that fit that cute picture or is that a myth perpetuated by the public, lol???
I have raised several breeds from puppies, and have never had a "cuddly" puppy. From Beagles to Labradors and Boxers to Pekingnese , with various rescue/mixes thrown in, they were all naughty, mouthy, biting, chewing, squirming Sooners* with two speeds... all out and passed out.
*Sooner was a term used by my redneck stepfather, God rest his soul, to describe a dog who would just as soon defecate/urinate (NOT his actual terms) on carpet as grass. In Henry Gill's opinion, all dogs were yard dogs.
The two pure bred GSDs I had/have were both from WG over Czech working lines but totally different.
One could be as serious as a heat attack yet lovable with family and those he knew.
Very high energy sport dog.
I would call it dignified cuddling if that makes sense,
The other is 10 1/2 now and still a big clown that loves attention but couoldn't stand still for a cuddle if his life depended on it. Even petting him requires a lot of calmness.
I've had a number of terrier breeds over the yrs along with terrier mixes and a number of different breeds and mixes.
Most could be cuddle dog but one mutt in particular that would just as soon bite me in the ^$$ as "cuddle"
There are certain "breed" characters that you can expect but understanding the lines they come from can be a good clue.
My present GSD came from very serious, no fooling around lines yet he is a clown.
