So I'm in my local Starbucks this Saturday:

30-something year old mother of 2 daughters under 3 years of age comes in with a double-stroller & an Elderly toy Poodle wearing a "neck doughnut" collar AND a "cone-of-shame" who was clearly Suffering Discomfort and DISTRESS while the woman is allowing both extremely Young Girls to TORMENT the POOR old dog by Constantly Petting it none too gently

Of course I couldn't help asking the mother if she didn't think "Fluffy" would have been much Better Off if she left her at HOME to Recover in Peace -- Hm-m-m-m, naturally THAT went over about as well as a pregnant high-jumper ... You know that unhappy little dog will eventually SNAP at those girls, and then what ???

ETA the Reason this dog was in Recovery:

They had taken her Camping over the 4th of July, and because she has developed age-related Vision Impairment, they let her WALK on the hot CAMPFIRE coals that she Couldn't See !!!

I've gotten into a lot of arguments over the years with morons who through ignorance and stupidity have put their dogs welfare at the end of their queue of priorities, in fact, I'm sitting very hard on an accident waiting to happen with a colleagues dog at the moment. I'm offering unsolicited advice and un-asked for opinions because I can see where it's going to end - badly.

As someone who used to post on here said more than once, you can't fix stupid.

Things like that happen here often. some people think: It's just a dog, MY dog, MY toy, I have the right to do with him what I want;.
Recently I saw a man beating his dog with a thick stick, because he had not follewed his recall immediately! I allowed myself to tell him to stop this and to critze him. He found, this is none of my business and all ended in a harsh argument. '

I've already had many confrontations, most of them though about less severe things. All in vain. A dog has to obey and if he doesn't, he needs to be punished.

Well, all I can say is that God will use similar "logic" on those PEOPLE in The Judgment, in my view

"You can teach the ignorant but you can't fix stupid".

Well said! And you can add: You can fix people who are in one or other chapter ignorant, but only if they are willing to learn out of their mistakes. You can meet people, who are perhaps a bit stupid or uneducated, and they listen to you.

You know, I don't ha great things to offer, but when I show to some guests easy trickjs, - a sit, down, high, bow, roll over, weave between my legs, they're completely stunned and most of them think I must have punished them for not obeying commands.

Most of them think, I have miraculous tricks, which I want to keep for myself. Gladly some of them open ears and eyes and get it, that it is only a question of consistent training adapted to the dog, and always with love.

It is for them not simply a question of intelligence, it is aa question of being dominant in a selfish way and this will show also in everyday-life towards people.

It's a very hopeless demeanour.

It's wonderful that your bringing new training to people where you live.

Thank you both. The hopeless thing is, that they don't see any reason why dogs should be trained ro a certain extent. They think it is just a hobby of mine and that I want to open a circus .

I'm already glad if I contribute a little to a change of behavior = not to beat their dogs nor to punish them in any other way. I've not yet trried to explain them the difference between punishment and correction. If someone doesn'r train in the least he will not be able to understannd this.

So, my influence is not very great. At those who beat I can shout and am problably a very disgusting person. Perhaps with more calm I could reach more, I don't know. But I'm simply seized by an immense anger.

I also considered to threaten with the Police. But it would be ridiculous, as there is no Police. More exactly: Two policemen for domestic matters for about 40 000 people. They will have no time for such problems. When once my husband was attacked, they came half an hour after his call. I don't blame them, they're completely overwhelmed.

I guess you know, I'm talking about my region and many others, but not of whole Brazil. In metropoki's things are different as far as I know. They also seem to have some good schools for dog training with some of which I'm in contact via Internet. For example the school of the behaviorist Alexandre Rossi. But most people can't afford to participate.
