When I praise one of my dogs for something he's done well I also hug, ,cuddle and smooch him. This also means that sometimes they get one or two kisses on their forehead (neveron the snout). Then of course it happens that the dog "kisses" back. Some people reacted almost indignantly about this. I must emphasize that I never allow them to wash my whole face. This i do myself (regularly at Christmas), it's just an exchange of one or two "kisses", then I stop ist.
What's your opinion about this? Is this really so unhygienic? Also with cats I had so many decades before, I never caught any desease from this. Of course if i were allergic it would be something else. Why shouldn't I allow an animal to show his affection for a moment in this manner? (As long as it happens on my terms).
Are the germs they might transmit so dangerous for us? I personally find this quite a bit exaggerated.

I've been kissing pets on the MOUTH and Vice Versa for going on 70 YEARS already & have NEVER caught ANYTHING from them Not gonna stop now, LOL -- They get their VAX as required and I've had all mine, so we're Both Safe on those counts ... I know there are unwanted "things" that can be passed between the various species, but I'm just not a "Nervous-Nellie" when it comes to this /// SO far, so GOOD, and I couldn't care less about onlookers' opinions either !!!

Nothing wrong with it- some people just don't like it. Toni's favorite reward is getting to jump on me and getting a hug.

LOVE this, Kelly, thanks !!! Sometimes 'My house, my Rules' can mean: If I want to Reward MY Dog by giving her a 'free pass' to Jump ON Me after complying with some requirement, then that works for us, LOL

I let Harry kiss my face and hands when grooming. Not a fan of slobber, But will take kisses over teeth anyday!

Becky, I don't care either about what people think, when watching the interaction between my dogs and me.But as some warned me so rigidly about this I wanted to know if it's really such a risk.
Bob, no tongue licking at all? Why? If I cuddle my dogs or give them a kiss on their forehead it is inevitable thar they kiss back. But they stop it, when I say so.

You know your dogs better than any nosy body. So you know the limits too.
I don't care what people think on how I live with, discipline, or love my dog.
I get poo poo'd for crating my dog when company is over. I say, don't like it, leave. My dog, my life.
But I draw the line on watching people who let their dogs put their tongue in their mouthes or share food bites...not a fan of slobber!

Exchanging tongues with Pets ??? LOL, not for me either, Becky -- Too much E-E-E-W factor there, but I've never had Slobbery Breeds, so I don't mind a little Face-Washing from mine ... "You don't like it, you can Leave", GOOD one !!!

Harry has slobber running down like a faucet when being groomed, so I make sure my head is never near his.
I won't complain tho, better than he was before. Since I taught him to climb up himself, he is more confident on it.
God help me when he shakes his head in the house. Sometimes he forgets to swallow! Everyday I an wiping flecks of spit off walls and bookcases.
But I still love the big Turd, mouth goo and all!
