I have the great dane that I've posted on here about in the past. He gets chronic intermittent diarrhoea and has been symptomatic since last wknd. off and on. Nothing in the past 3 or 4 days on metronidazole though. He is in the vicinity of 10 years old (not sure because he's a rescue) and has eaten v. little in the last week. Seems to have a bit of an appetite late in the day. Not sure whether this is because his system is dealing with the colitis or an age-related downturn. Any suggestions for getting him to eat? He is on a gastrointestinal diet, can't have anything with chicken.

Given his age (and the fact that the meds have never bothered him before and he is off them now), I suspect something more sinister as he has thrown up water a couple of times in the last 24 hours. Still isn't eating. He did eat yesterday evening--I made him scrambled eggs with cheese--but won't touch anything today. I have contemplated taking him to the vet but he gets hugely stressed, he is about 180 lbs. and I can no longer get him in the car and can't even attempt it alone, he doesn't appear to be in any distress (not panting, sleeping most of the time and still keen on his walk around the block) and given his age, I am opting for no heroics. I just want him to comfortable and not to starve. He is still drinking well. Just wondered about foods that might tempt him (he loves Rollover and is still eating that as treats). Was also wondering if I should put Pedialyte in his water....
