Under the heading, Nature Abhors A Vacuum, and in no particular order
1 Congrats on your new dog Bob.
2 We are getting a little female dog, a mutt, combo black and tan hound and beagle, about 8 months old and not a GSD. What are we thinking? Daughter found it wandering on their land about three months ago. They are out of state so figuring out the logistics of delivery has been interesting.
3 Down to two GSDs. One is 14, and while still getting around, the writing is on the wall. Always a depressing, hard to accept realization.
4 A lot of rain in the last 36 hours. And we needed it. Now sun and into the 90s. And no complaints.
5 New roof going on the house. I am grateful for roofers and more grateful I am not one. Super hot up there. Two and a half days in, and two or three more days of work for a crew of five.
6 There is a wish or curse, May you live in interesting times. And these are most certainly interesting times. Stay safe.
And so it goes
Mike A.

Thanks Mike! I've never had a hound of any breed or mix. Could be that I never saw one in obedience competition. Lovable as a pup can be but ruled by their nose. Going to be interesting following your new adventure.

Yeppers for sure, Mike, and THANK YOU on behalf of all Hound Lovers As you know, Beagles and Coon Hounds are "born to wander" far & wide in search of
critters !!! I'll be most interested to follow your progress on teaching a Solid Recall -- And rest assured that if Marker Training doesn't happen to yield 100% reliable results (though hopefully it will) both Scent Hounds & Sight Hounds do respond
quite well to humane E-Collar training ... Even my Borzoi and Basenjis learned to ALWAYS obey the Come command off-lead Without fail, which was LITERALLY a lifesaver for them.

Good evening Candi,
Not sure when the wee dog will be arriving. Living in NY, the issue of virus spread is imprinted on peoples' minds. So, my daughter and granddaughters deferred their trip from NC, and that delays the arrival of Poppie. My granddaughters named the dog.
My daughter grew up around GSDs, and is somewhat tuned in to my evolved training approach. The little dog recalls quite quickly at the sound of her name. My daughter has a large fenced in back yard at her house which helps in the establishment of boundaries and minimizes wandering far and yon.
Poppie seems to crave human interaction, or so it seems when we use FaceTime. Certainly a few different behavior patterns than GSDs. But she seems to pick up tricks quickly. Praise and high value treats encourage her command compliance. She is terrific with my young granddaughters.
I'm looking forward to her presence at some point in time. Until then, it has to be video conferencing to see her in action.
Be safe.

Ugh, i used to roof, miss the hard work!
Looking forward to all the new pup updates from every one!
Mine is still in working on it mode. Still doesn't enjoy being inside, and rarely plays, will lay in front of her chews and toys and completely ignore them, and definitely not enjoying our summer bugs or heat outside either, summer here is hard to cope with, humans and animals alike!
She still poops when stressed, mostly in my atv trailer. I am still sticking to basics with her until she accepts indoors, and starts to want more human interaction, until then its crate, potty, and we pretty much pretend she's invisible until she comes to us when she is not hiding in her crate or squeezed down on the floor.
She does react to faces popping in my screen door, so at least her instinct to guard is there.
We also have her finally eating 4 cups a day!
Slow going, and a strict routine has had her come along way, at least she is no longer afraid of house sounds, and no longer taking off to hide when anyone passes by her!

This is all GREAT news, Mike !!! Hopefully such COVID-19 delays will wind down before too much longer & you can get the new pup up to your place sometime fairly soon -- Sounds like the "nature & nurture" in your family line have proven true-to-form ... I look forward to reading more Wonderful results with Poppie, and maybe seeing some PIX <:-)

Mike, congratulations on the new family member. Yes, the Covid-19 situation sure has caused many stresses and difficulties, but Poppie was very fortunate to be adopted by your daughter when she was found lost, and I'm confident you and the GSDs will adjust nicely to having a hound in the family, when she is able to get there.
Candi, I hope you're settling into a pleasant routine in your new locale. I am envious every time I think of you living there.
In the meantime, my husband and I are settled into a routine that, unfortunately, I think is going to be the norm for quite a while to come. Frequent phone calls and email with family and friends, along with videoconference meetings with some of the clubs I belong to, are helping to keep me sane.
My dogs are doing well, considering their ages (Dobermans, 12 and 13). My female just started having some urine leakage for the first time in her life. A visit to the vet ruled out a UTI, so it's probably something that was inevitable considering her age, but we are monitoring closely and will follow up with the vet.
My sister had the bad luck of losing both of her elderly Basset Hounds within a little over a month recently. They were 13 and 14. She loves her hounds, and has a new BH puppy on the way probably the middle of August or so.
If any of you have not seen Comet Neowise yet, try to get a look at it before it's gone from our skies. It's the most visible comet since Hale-Bobb in the 1990s. Unless you are in very dark skies, you will probably need binoculars, at least to find it at first. If you miss it over the next week or so, you will have to wait another 7,000 years or so for this particular one to come back around.

Ahhh, a new dog.
I am missing my GSD and have adopted my daughter's dog - an American Bulldog. MIkey. Apt name as he will eat anything.
