Greetings boys and girls.
Soon gonna be down to one GSD. Kai is 15 or 16; the vet said she was about two when we adopted her. Of little difference now.
I thought she was going to have to be put down last October but the vet offered a possible help and prescribed gabapentin and Kai has been doing pretty darned good until the last month of so. She isn't mobile now, a dramatic change in just the last two weeks.
She has arthritis in her back and the drug seemed to have offered long term relief, perhaps just pain relief, for which we are grateful.
Trying to figure out a resolution with the vet but the virus and Labor Day have proved to be work around needs. I hope to get stuff settled by tomorrow.
The board has been disappointingly quiet. I suppose change is inevitable and one must be resolved for such.
Anyway, I hope all are well and being safe.
Mike A.

Oh, Mike, I'm so sorry about Kai.
I'm glad and relieved that she has you to carry on and do what she needs.
That doesn't mean it will be any less painful. She's been with you for many years!
EDITED TO ADD
Mike, there have been other posts to this thread, but they went astray. I'm emailing with IT.
They were from Becky and Cheri.

Seems a sad day, yesterday. We put Kai down. She was a little GSD, about 55 lbs. When she came here years ago, she was emaciated with her little eyes bugged out and hips pointy. She went from foster to immediate rescue. A gentle little creatureen.
The vet practice has virus controls in place but we drove over and they accommodated us by doing the procedure in the parking lot - one of the benefits of a more rural practice. We were all able to be with her. A blessing.
My daughter, Tricia, and Ithen took Kai to our cabin where the other dogs are resting and interred her with her companions. My neighbor near the cabin came over and helped.
Kai was about 14 years old. From her rocky health start as a foster, to our dog for about 12 years, she was a joy, a gift.
It is hard to lose a friend but the loss is tempered by the many, many good memories.
Titan is a bit bewildered. He slept at her side for years. He is on her mat as I type.
And so it goes...

Mike, I'm so sorry to hear about Kai. I know it is never easy to let them go, no matter their age, but I hope it is a comfort to you to remember what a good long life she had and what a loving home she had with you and your family.

So sorry to hear about Kai, Mike. It seems that this fall has not been kind,. Along with your loss, and Bob’s, Paul and I lost our Toni on Sept 27.
No matter how long they are with us - a few short months to 10 years or more, the loss is still difficult.
You gave Kai a wonderful life, and bless you for that.

Kelly, I'm so sorry about Toni, too. I know I posted on FB, but I've been thinking of you and wanted to tell you.
Same with you, Mike.
