unfortunately seems to be a theme today. I had to have Trooper put down in mand and just had to do the same with my new puppy at 41/2 months old. After years with Terriers and GSD's the wife and I wanted a non shedding house dog. Wife wanted a small Poodle because of the non shedding. We compromised and I got a Standard Poodle. Well, he didn't shed anyway. Unfortunately due to "possibly" trama ant birth or injury soon after his whole rear was a mess. It didn't start to show till about a month or so ago and got worse. We had him Xrayed. I printed medical books for about half of my 40 yrs as a printer and I could immediately see he was a mess. Got a second opinion for a vet that was an expert with X-rays and his first comment was "He's really a mess back there". Both vets said total hip replacement was about the only thing that "might" help. At 12-13 thousand $ it was out of the Question. Breeder said they would replace him. I completely trust the breeder and ALL their dogs are OFA Certified. We also would have to put it off till his growth plates closed and that could be anywhere between 12-18 montns old. The past week he could no longer make the basement steps where I did his grooming and combing. Yet another reason to not let him suffer any longer. At 75 I know I have one more good dog in me so, as bad as things are right now I'm looking forward to starting over, possibly by the New Year.
So sorry Bob, what a sad year, hugs your way!
I understand your pain! I had to do the same with my pyrenees Flo, all 4 of her limbs and both hips were ugly.
Bob, I'm so sorry to hear that you have had to say good-bye to your new young pup, Ami. It's always hard to lose one of our dogs, but especially so when that dog is still just a puppy and will miss out on the lifetime of love we had hoped to share. My deepest condolences to you and your family.
Thanks, Connie. When I posted yesterday morning, my first post disappeared, so I did it over again, and that one disappeared, also. Then, later in the day, they both showed up, but by then, it was too late for me to edit and delete one of them. I'm glad you caught it.
