The little dog, a hound mix of some variation, has arrived from NC.

My middle daughter found her wandering around and took her home. She couldn't keep her, so I decided an addition to the family would be a good thing. My bride observed that we didn't realize how big Titan is until he was standing next to Poppy.

The little dog is about 40 lbs., and Titan is about 100 lbs. A change for us to have a dog other than a GSD. A big change to have a hound mix.

Went to the vet yesterday for an exam and roadmap for the next several weeks. Went well. The NC vet had sent Poppy's file to our vet.

A booster shot of joy to the house. The wee dog gets along fine with Titan, and my youngest daughter's GSD, Zuzu. Zuzu and Poppy have play days when we dogsit. They run and run and tear up the back yard. To see them, both young dogs, playing is joyful, and brings back memories of days past, and dogs. It had been quiet, too quiet.

So, Poppy arrived and filled a void. A different dog, to be sure, but a welcome addition. Titan approves.

And so it goes.

Congratulations on your new addition, Mike! Poppy's story is an uplifting one, a dog in need, a special person steps in to help, then that dog ends up with a great forever home. I've never owned a hound type dog either, but I'm not ruling it out for the future. I'm so glad to know your house is less quiet now, in a very good way.

Very nice, Mike. Somehow, these wonderful creatures find us, even when we aren’t really looking. Give the little one a hug from all of us.

I'm with Kelly and Cheri, Mike -- your post brought tears to my eyes because it's just such a sorely needed chunk of happy news.

I'm picturing two young dogs tearing up the yard on playdates ...

Happy for you and family Mike! One of my nieces has a Zuzu LabXGolden mix she got from a rescue. Brother had a Presa named Titan. Amazing how names get around. My Quincy will be here about Dec 5th - 12th. Connie's daughter has a Quincy also.

So, Poppy seems to recall better to the name Dobby, if you think of house elves and Harry Potter. Whatever works better is OK with me.

She officially weighs in at 33 lbs. which is about a third of Titan's weight.

She has the nose of a hound. Has to investigate everything. And the puppy in her has her full of mischief. Chewed up a club membership card I was about to use. Did a right proper job, she did.

My bride has likened her behavior to that of a cat. Mostly because of the wee dog's penchant for cuddling and insistent attitude. Certainly different than Titan's inclinations.

It didn't take her long to become comfortable in her surroundings. Though we are still adapting to some of her behaviors. Sounds a bit strange to note it so but there it is. She has an attitude of aloofness in some measure. I think it has to do with recognizing different training or conditioning techniques are in order.

We will learn together, I figure. She has adapted quickly to the timetable of the house. Morning and evening rituals are conditioned. Can't fool around with my morning coffee routine.

Anyway, she is a welcomed addition. And Titan is accepting of her exuberance for the most part. Always a plus when there is harmony.

Watching Futbol, English Premier League, and sipping Lyons Gold Irish tea. Need to get a bit more mobile and purposed. Perhaps.

Very cool Mike! sounds like Poppy/Dobby is fitting in nicely. That can sometimes be a huge hurdle to get past.
