Canadian board members...please check this out! Looking for a Canadian distributor that sells quality Glucosamine products for dogs. Can't seem to find one that sells it in powdered form or in larger mg doses. I would love to buy Grand Flex, but have been told it is not sold in Canada. If I'm wrong please let me know. Also looking for powdered Vit C. Has anyone heard anything about Glycoflex? Canadian shoppers please let me know where you can buy some of these items online. I am reluctant to pay foreign exchange on the Canadian $$ plus the duties are a killer. My last two U.S. orders nearly gave me heart palpitations!!! This is gardening season....my $$$ is going fast!!! Thanks to anyone who responds!
Bob, that is similar to the kind that I use. I use the Triple Flex, that contains MSM in addition to Glucosamine and Chondroitin, though I just checked out the link you provided, and noticed that the Dr. does not recommend MSM. Guess I'm going to have to do some more research!
Our dogs run about 60 lbs. I dissolve one tablet of glucosamine (1500 mg) chondroitin (1200 mg)and two flax seed oil (1000 mg)capsules in a glass of hot water and divide it between our 2 dogs' kibble, raw vegetable, raw meat mixture. So each dog gets 750 mg glucosamine 600 mg chondroitin and 1,000 mg flax seed. My only concern is heating the flax seed oil. I seem to remember reading somewhere that it changes the oil in some way. Anyone else hear about that? I think that I'll just give them the capsule before meals from now on.
We've been using "Missing Link Plus". But it seems to make our dogs constipated, even though we're using only 2 teaspoons per dog per day rather than the 3 they recommend. An orthapedic surgeon for dogs told me there is no evidence that this stuff helps. Maybe he's not doing his homework???
What he probably means is that there isn't a study that shows it works in dogs. People saying, "I tried it and it seems to make a difference." is not the same as a study where dosages are precisely defined and the results are accurately characterized. How many milligrams, range of motion before, after, cartilage thickness
However, people have plenty of anecdotal evidence to the contrary. That is the, "I tried it and it works" kind of evidence.
A friend's dog is about 7. I noticed that towards the end of a long walk she would start lagging behind. Her normal custom is to forge ahead and enjoy the limited freedom of the Flexi. I prompted her owner to start the dog on glucosimine/chondroiten (sp?). The dog no longer lags behind and she will once again not hesitate to make a leap up on a 3' high bed. Yeah, she's not supposed to do it, but sometimes she gets special dispensation.
In my case, I had an ACL reconstruction a few years back. I definately notice a change if I don't keep up with my G-C.
Caniche - Greenhawk has a glucosamine/Chondroitin sulphate/msm/Vitamin C supplement called Synovicare. It is a horse product but I understand thet the grand Flex is also? It is $55.00 Cdn (34.48 US) and there are lots of stores
in Ontario or you can order on-line. Hope that this helps. http://www.greenhawk.net
Where in Canada are you? I buy powdered vitamin C, glucosamine, MSM, chondroitin etc at a place called Nutrition House in Toronto and they are reasonably priced.
