Well, it was so sad around the farm without a dog that we bought a pup.
An old person dog.
A chiweenie (chihuahua x dachshund)
At a truck stop.
Will I ever learn? Will I ever research a good breeder, wait and choose a perfect dog?
I guess not…..
Has anyone ever had one of these? Known one?

My sister (on the East Coast) has adopted dogs over the years from Puerto Rico, where they have a huge number of homeless dogs, through the Save a Sato Foundation. Her first one, years ago, was a Chihuahua x Dachshund. Quite a coincidence!
("Sato" is slang for "street dog" in Puerto Rico. My understanding is that many, or most, satos are Chihuahua or Terrier mixes.)
I can't remember his name now, but I did meet him on trips back home, and he was a real sweetheart.
I'd love to hear more about your new guy, Betty. I'm sure others would, too.
What's his name?
P.S. If you ever want to email me a picture, I could put it into my newly resurrected PhotoBucket account and post a link here.

Betty, EXCELLENT! I've always been one to "get right back on the horse" when I loose a dog. Having a new puppy will never replace the one lost but it really takes some of the sting out buy keeping me busy.
With me, after yrs with terriers and working line GSDs among many other breeds and mutts I now have a one yr old, as of yesterday, Standard Poodle named Quincy.
Keep us up on your Chi x Dach.
old dogs LOVE to learn new tricks |

Betty, I'm very happy to hear that you have another dog! I was in a similar situation earlier this year when I had lost both of my senior dogs close together. After a month with no dog in the house, I couldn't stand the silence and sadness, and I ended up with a mutt from a local rescue. We're pretty sure he's a Lab/Beagle mix, but it's a long way from the Dobermans we had had for decades previously.
I don't have any experience with the Chihuahua/Dachshund mix personally. The closest I can come is to tell you that my dad and stepmom currently have two miniature Dachshunds and also two Chihuahuas (plus a Pomeranian). All of them were adopted from friends or family who could no longer care for them. The two Doxies and one Chi are seniors. These dogs bring a lot of love and comfort to their home, and I have enjoyed visiting them when I'm able (they live a couple hours away, so it's not as often as I'd like).
Dogs come into our lives in many different ways, sometimes planned ahead of time, sometimes not, but I think the puppy that went home with you won the dog lottery when it comes to getting a good home! We would love to hear more. Boy, girl, long hair, short hair, color, name?

Reporting on the new pup.
Yesterday she put the ball in my hand.
She IS trainable…just “slow”, and really only interested in the food reward, not into our “connection”.
Someday I will have another heeler.

She put the ball into your hand!
"Slow" is fine, and your connection will grow, as it did with your Pinker.
No one can be your Pinker, Betty, but this girl will develop and show you her own personality.
Any time you happen to get a photo, send it to me and I'll link everyone to it on Photobucket.
And what's her name? I missed that.

I’m a little embarrassed to send a picture!
Perhaps I can catch one with her ball that isn’t too awful.
