Good afternoon all,
About 4 inches of snow overnight. First snow of the season hereabouts.
The little nut job hound, variously known as Poppy or Doebbie, is zipping around the backyard in celebration of the white stuff or she is just really cold. I think she looks like the house elf in Harry Potter.
Titan, the GSD elder statesman, is walking around, and taking care to watch her antics. Fun to watch the two interact. He makes three of her but his patience from day one with her Type A personality has been informative of a GSD who is confident in himself.
The blue sky is peeking through, and sunlight is casting shadows. Makes for a heightened appreciation of the beauty of the first snow.
I wish all a Happy and Joy Filled Thanksgiving.
Mike A.

I just looked at a picture of the house elf. I hope to see a picture of Poppy one day!
Thank you for the evocative description of their carryings-on, Mike.
Happy Thanksgiving to you too, and to everyone!

Seems I also have a hound. My pup is WAY too big for the breed I thought I picked up at the truck stop.
Our boys returned to Minnesota from California and Colorado for Thanksgiving. Such a dream to have them home. Family makes the best friends if you are lucky enough to get that done.
Happy Thanksgiving to you all.
Stay well, my friends.

Haha, Mike. I think the vision of Poppy will always be etched in my my mind as the house elf.
Congratulations on your new puppy, Betty! Happy you
Were able to spend Thanksgiving with your boys.
It’s been mild our way, but the dogs will be happy when
snow flies.

And here we already had a blizzard lol!
I can imagine the zipping, Leo's nightly zoomies are hilarious.
He really took a dislike to the neighbors husband across the road, just the husband tho. Wife and kids he loves. No more off leash until the wolves pass by.
Bear season is over here, onto dark evening and snowy days!
Nice to see ya Mike! And everyone else!

It's nice to see a number of you checking in here. It sounds like everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. We had a quiet day at home with the two dogs. Many of our family live far away now, and the logistics don't work out well for a long trip these days.
Yes, winter has come to Michigan, too. We've had a couple snowfalls, though temps have been high enough it's pretty much melted in the next day or two.
It's interesting that a few of us old regulars now have hound-y type dogs. Hunter and Terra are doing fine. They are gradually learning to play together. It's taken a while, as they each have very different play styles, but they seem to be adapting and having fun.
I'm still trying to get both of them into some training classes. Of course, I can and do train at home (okay, a little bit anyway), but I think both would benefit from getting out among other people and dogs once in a while. My club is having a hard time keeping up with the demand, and usually by the time the new class schedule is posted and I've gotten on the site, the classes are already filled. It's the same with another local dog club I sometimes use.
Other than that, not much new. Just trying to think of ways to get through another long winter without going crazy!

Being pretty much a night owl I drop in most nights about 10:30 CTS just to see if there is anything going on.
No hounds here but after years with numerous different breeds and a few mix/mutts plus numerous terrier breeds and a couple of working line GSDs. I have one more dog in me and it's a now 13 month old Standard Poodle Named Quincy.
Quincy is doing great in spite of my laziness and procrastination. The typical come sit, down, stand, backup, wait for an "ok" to eat when his food is put down, going through doors, gates, house and car. "leave it" is solid as is his retrieving in addition to what I alwas looked at as cute parlor tricks. Ok, OK I'm a Poodle owner now
Most everything has been done with at home training but I have a trainer that I can go to that can help me with individual problems. Because of the covid thing I haven't socialized him as much as I like ot should. A class room of basic OB is probably needed to get the exposure we need.
GOALS. AKC OB, Herding and maybe barn hunt and the AKC Fast CAT.
Compairing my 1 Standard Poodle to the GSD training. I believe the Poodle has a higher level of inteligence but the training IS a bit different. The GSDs being a herding dog are all about "what can I do for you"? The Poodle learns quickly also but they, mine anyway are about "I can do anything you want but whats in it for me"?
Still very impressed with the breed. VERY athletic. size for size I think Quincy is as fast, quick and agile as any of my terriers. Same with his energy level. Feels like I have a 55 lb JRT at times.
Regardless of how far we go the wife and I fell in love with the happy goofball.
My first Working line GSD Thunder will always be my heart dog but Quincy is going to push hard for that spot.

Leo is pushing 7 months soon, and is great at basics, even though I have spent more time carving than training. He actually has a great retrieve too!
-40c windchill here now. Going to be cold sourcing wood!
We added new aquariums to the house now, 4 running and one I have to recaulk. I finished the last carving order today, so finally have time to attend to tank maintenance and caulking. And taking Leo for some off leash meanders on the river, now that it's been iced up a few weeks. Bay is frozen too finally .
I check out the forum a few times a week. Might do some posting next week!
