Ivan, are you talking about becoming a SchH helper?
I'm asking this because the post is in the KNPV training section, and I don't want to give advice in a sport that I'm certainly not qualified for.
Ivan, my two cents worth, offered with considerable modesty, as I only have a couple years of experience:
It's possible to take a course in decoying from a really good professional dog trainer, during which you'll work almost every imaginable working breed and can learn some things not usually taught to most decoys. I think this is really a very good option if you have the chunks of time to do it. It costs a few shekels, but not as much as you might fear. But a surprising number of pro and amateur trainers are still sticking with older ideas, and the initiate cannot select that pro trainer (or a club trainer) to show them the ropes without knowing a good deal about the skills you want to learn, and what a really good decoy can do. So the first step, whether you decide on going to a pro or getting trained by a club trainer, is to accomplish that, and the best way, I think, is by attending seminars given by really fine decoys like Michael Ellis. THAT is an eye-opening experience.
I'll be interested to see what others have to say. I think many would say that a club trainer would be the best place to start. But I believe it's generally a much slower way to learn, and you learn a comparatively limited skill set.
