I saw a mal do a reverse heel on command in Israel. The dog would flip around and walk looking backwards in the heel position. I understand this is a feature of the french ring sport. Has anyone experience in training a dog to do this? How is it trained?
I guess there are many ways to train it. it would depend on what works for your dog.
You could leash guide the dogs head to face behind you, walk using a fence on one side and blocking him returning with your body on the other. Overlaying the reverse command
Another way is to have a decoy come to you, get the dogs attention, then have the dog follow him as he steps behind you. Keep the dog close pop the lead and walk as the decoy keeps the dog in place. overlay the reverse command. reward with a bite after one step, then two....untill the dog has the idea.
I can tell you, it is alot easier to do with a dog that hasn't had years of heeling.
