Yes Yes the best way to proof a dog for article indication in a trial is to give a correction on the article in a big event.. (just kidding)
OK this is how I teach articles Oh wait...but before I tell you my dog must learn to indicate
them considering he likes to stop and look at me at the last articles for no apparent reason .....
Word to the wise for anyone giving corrections on articles in a big event---it's ALL six points regardless if your dog stepped over the article or NOT (my dog stopped stood and looked at me. I gave a small correction for him to down)...trust me, I'm speaking from personal experience Anyone ever debate with the judge over this? I have And I can't believe I didn't win the sportmanship award
Teach article indication separately, off of the track. Motivation for articles works better than compulsion. Then when the compulsion in tracking starts the article is the safe place for the dog. All routines should finish on a positive, not with compulsion.
Alan writes, no compulsion on the articles, and compulsion on the track .It works the other way for me ,the articles still become the safe place to be . I have no compulsion on the track ,but do the articles with compulsion . Works for me lastest dog SCH 3 going for his FH .Peter
