I went to see the 8th annual, SV sanctioned, HGH Herding trial hosted by the First HGH Herding Club today. It was in northen NJ, and was VERY interesting!
I was almost going to go to the Northeast Regionals, but opted to see the herding instead, and I'm glad I did!The dogs that I saw were true working dogs, and to watch them in harmony with their handlers working those sheep was amazing!200 sheep is a pretty BIG buch, IMO!!!
I also got a much greater appreciation of the reason why the gait of a GSD must be reaching and fluid, as they truly run all over the place!
This is something all GSD entusiasts should be sure to witness if they at all have the opportunity to <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

No Roger, I'm sorry, I haven't. The only time I ever saw any herding done was at this trial.

http://members.aol.com/rrsheepfrm/Direct.htm is the site talking about Raspberry Ridge. I love the woman who runs the place, Carolyn, she trains GSD's AND Border Collies for herdings, so how cool is THAT?
If you check the site, and save it in your Favorites, she has Herding Temperment Tests thru out the year. You and your dog can have ZERO experience in herding, and you go to this to see how your dog does instinctively with a few sheep. It is incrediably neat to see.
