I was watching a Schutzhund trial last night on tv. On the courage test, several dogs actually missed the sleeve. Why do they do this? I've heard someone say once that its a genetic thing and a lack of courage. Is this true?
When several dogs miss the sleeve on the courage test, not just one, you have to wonder if the helper was turning too soon. Unless of course they were all Dobermans - then it's normal! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

ahh, the famous dobie trait! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
The dogs that missed were a Rott and a GSD. The Rott actually grabbed the sleeve at first and then let go and had to re-grip. Is it possible that the helper caused the dog to miss? The Rott obviously did not get a good grip in the first place which was obvious. BTW, the doberman did just fine <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
Come on guys. How did a question about a dog missing the sleeve turn into trashing the Dobermann <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> ? The dogs in question weren't even Dobermanns.
I don't think they are trashing Dobies Danielle, rather poking fun at them because of their experience working/watching the breed, who I will take it has a tendancy to miss the sleeve, moreso then other breeds. I personally have not witnessed this, all the Dobies I ever saw in trial had no problem with the catch in the courage test, but that's only been 2 of them. I'm sure if I saw 200 my view might change.
Leute mögen Hunde, aber Leute LIEBEN ausgebildete Hunde!
You must have a Dopie. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
Its always fun to trash Doberpunks.
Don't take it so serioulsy. . .we all know that Doberman are SUPER GREAT DOGS, capable of incredible feats of Schutzhund and protection excellence. . .
