Can anyone in this board tell me Why my dog at 8months does not do the hold and bark. She like the sleeve and ball very much when I hide the ball behind my back every time just to make him frustrate she just sit infront and just stare at me.
You can start teaching the dog B&H for fun. Like first get it to sit and bark for food. Then move on to a toy.
You can start giving the toy to someone else, like a family memeber then give the B&H command. Also you can hang the toy up and send the dog to do a B&H.
Place her on a line and stand on it so she is stuck in a siting position. Hold a piece of food in front of her and say reiver. Make sure she cant get it, and also so she feels a slight tension through the line. Wait until she makes even a smallest sounds. Reward her and say good reiver. It will turn into a bark soon. Then move to a toy you hold, then to a toy someone else holds, and onto a sleeve. You can start with this when they are very little
I think what Ed is trying to say in his sweet way is, You are way ahead of yourself. This sport requires not just the teaching but in a orderly way for the proper results. You are ahead of your self. At that age thereare a lot of other things that should be tought first.

Ron Bryant has it right. I do teach a "speak" command that is seperate from the "watch/B&H", but it is for a different purpose. It is so I can teach the dog to shut up on command. I wouldn't worry about a bark & Hold now. It will come on it's own as the dog matures. If you teach it as a simple bark command, the dog may not associate the barking with idea of the threat. You may end up with much less intensity in the B & H. My general pattern is to teach the watch when you are starting to teach control and that will come later. Work bite building and intensity in drive now, and control later.
If you can't be a Good Example, then You'll just have to Serve as a Horrible Warning. Catherine Aird.
