Taking the pup out on snow now.
Yes, Dave and Lee, we now do turns and windy tracks (snow is great for this!).
I have two problems-one is I can tell he sometimes gets greedy and starts looking for the bait in the track instead of sniffing, and the second issue is the filthy dirty crows are eating my baits before I can go back to the house and get the dog.
This morning I tried dropping the bait in the track and then stepping back on it to get snow on top, but the pupper doesn't always find the bait when I do this-he can smell it but when he roots for it sometimes it turns over into the snow where it is hopelessly lost.
Is there a pale colored bait that might work better?
Maybe bait is the wrong word-I want a pale stinky kibble, or treat thing.
If your pup likes it, and most do, mozerrella string cheese is perfect for snow tracking. If you don't know what it is, it's 6" "sticks" of mozerrella sold in the cheese section, nice and cheap. Slice it into little medallions and they make great training treats or tracking bait. Neither pup nor crows should be able to see it well.
