I AM REHANDLING A 4YR OLD SERVICE DOG. EVERYTHING IS FINE APART FROM EXCESSIVE CREEPING ON DISTANCE CONTROL. THE PREVIOUS HANDLER HAD ALWAYS HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH HIM. I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL METHODS TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM i.e GOING BACK TO SHORT DISTANCE, LEAVING THE DOG IN POSITION AND CIRCLING,DOING IT ON A PALLET, PUTTING A BARRIER IN FRONT, CLIPPING HIM ON A LEASH AND PULLEY. HOWEVER AS SOON AS THERE IS NO TRAINING AID THE DOG REVERTS TO CREEPING. THE DOG KNOWS THE COMMANDS AND KNOWS THAT HE SHOULD STAY, BUT HE HAS THIS OVERWELMING URGE TO CREEP BACK TO ME.DO ANY MEMBERS HAVE ANY FUTHER IDEAS OR ADVICE ON SOLVING THIS PROBLEM.THANKS.
Hey there,
Does the dog creep on all distance exercises? Position changes, downs in motion(recalled) or is it just this one exercise?
Also, please type in non caps so it doesn't look like you are SCREAMING....LOL
pdmax is in trouble, give help instead......... I think I know what you mean Pdmax. To improve your distant control I suggest you purchase the video form leerburg "Training the competition Heeling dog" It helps the dog to it on the sport and have no chance to creep forward. Try seeing the video it will solve your problems.
