Hey folks. I'm looking to start my GSD in agility training next year when he is old enough to start. I have tried to find some clubs on the website for the USDAA, but their Michigan links (email addresses) are out dated... as in no longer exist. I was wondering if anyone knew about any clubs that would be fun for us in our area? The breeder where I got him runs a training class and has a small course, but they are almost two hours away from us.
Just a suggestion - GSDs have a fairly short competitive career unfortunately. To get a headstart, you might want to see if anyone in your area offers puppy classes geared towards agility. Zero jumping of course, but they can already begin learning tunnels, dogwalks that are placed on the ground, targets, contacts, and probably more important - how to follow your body language, the turning of your shoulders, follow a hand signal, turning around a jump standard, etc. They can learn an incredible amount before they EVER learn to jump.
Thanks for that info Lee... I have checked out one place that offers the Agility for Puppies classes (no jumping, etc.) but they are the same ones where I take Apollo now for his puppy classes... therefore the classes are probably pretty big. Do you think it would be okay to take him there even if the classes are larger?
