April Fawaz Webboard User Reg: 03-21-2004 Posts: 4 Loc: Offline	Yesturday morning I let my two shepherd dogs out as I do evey morning ( I have a 3 acher fenced in yard) After the school bus left I let them back in because they were barking at someone walking along the fence line. I put them in the mud room as I always do. When I left them they were fine about 3 hours later I went to let the dogs back out, I noticed deiarra all over the mud room ( my dogs have never done this before)I let Abby my DDR bitch out but Gita my 6 year old Czech bitch would not move. I called my vet who came over right away, there was no sign of bloat,or anything that would indecate what happened? My vet did an acropce??(spelled wrong)but could not find anything. later on that day I found what looked like a bottle of windshild washer fluid cut into a dish along the fence line.My question is has anyone had a dog die suddnely without reason? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> A breeder who has no interest in rescue of the breed it has produced is of no worth to anyone, and even less worth to the breed.

I can not imagine what you are going through to have had that happen. Did you let the vet know about the container? My bet is not windsheild washer fluid- but instead anti-freeze.

If the vet report confirms this, call the police and file a report. Ask for an officer to come out and gather evidence ( hopefully you saved the container )I would not let your other dog out of your sight at all, and you need to check the area that the dog will go into before hand to prevent possible repeat attacks. You also need to review in your mind, who would do this kind of thing to you. These episodes are rarely random ( except for teenagers ), they usually are from a pissed off neighbor or enemy. I feel so sorry for your loss April, what a terrible experience <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> You might also want to contact your local newspaper once you confirm that the dog was in fact poisoned. You can tell them to help bring awareness to others in your area. This may help to keep other dogs safe, and also perhaps someone with info may come forward... No one ever said life was supposed to be easy, life is what you make of it!!

Very good point, I think I'll be doing some overseas E mailing and I'll let you know what the guys in Holland say. I'm thinking that we might want to add an extra step of training in posioning proofing here. It might be that no one trains against this as it's harder to deliver a liquid agent against the dog. However, that page doesn't seem to be available anymore. As I recall, the method was similar to crittering and snake proofing. It was aversion training using an E-Collar. You put a sample of antifreeze on a rag in a PVC pipe. The pipe had holes to let the scent out. Anytime, the dog paid attention to the pipe, he was nailed hard (without verbal comment) with an E-Collar at max setting.
