People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). These people have radical thinking towards dog ownership and have been know to go to go dog shows, open crates and letting dogs go. Dogs have been killed from these actions because they ran onto highways and hit by cars. They believe no one should own a dog because it's cruel. The list can go on and on. I encountered a PETA person on their list once who feels spaying and neutering are cruel because it's sexaual mutilation and because the animal doesn't have a choice. Ed's right they need to go after the dog fighters not silly things like this. They wanted to get the Green Bay Packers named changed because it referred to meat packaging. Hello there are bigger things to fry out there than that.

I hate to say it, but a lot of what I have been seeing recently says Humane Society of America is getting as bad. The local organizations are still exellent, but the National organization is starting to get to be a lot like PETA.

We have the RSPCA (Royal Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) same as your humane society, governemnt has banned duck hunting in some states here cause of thier pressure, they were also a big reason schutzhund, KNPV any bite sports were banned in Victoria where I live, still goes on though, just discretely.

The Humane Society here does not seem to care about any animals!!! My neighbors up and moved all of a sudden and left their puppy tied to a tree. We did not know it was there for a day or so until we heard it crying. I called the local society and they refused to come pick it up. So we called the police, and they came immediately out, but since it was a weekend, they could not do anything until the next Monday. We took care of it until then. The city animal control picked it up and found it a very good home. I would like to publicly recognize Officers Robert Wheatley and Nathan Jenkins (the animal control officer at that time) for helping rescue this puppy and find it a good home.

Yes, the Humane Society of the US has become very closely aligned w/PETA. Local humane societies are different, you can evaluate your own.
PETA punks also generally will be monitoring lists like this one, anything that has to do w/working dogs gets their hackels up. They believe it is terrible exploitation to *use* a dog for Guide Dog, SAR, detection, PSD, etc. We've had a few run ins w/them via PDR, they are nuts and very dangerous to your dogs.

Around here Peta has taken to confronting people for haveing their dogs obedience trained. They will hang out in Petsmart and similar places to harrass people when they bring the dogs in on leash. They only made the mistake of gettng aggressive with mt wife once with the Giant Schnauzer, he did not take kindly to them being nasty with my wife!

Richards comments on PETA are not unlike our animal rights actavists in the UK,I was confronted whilst training by a guy who considered Ecollars as a cruel tool and tried to grab my unit, the dog in question who was being cruelly treated on 1 Low grabbed the guy and gently bit his shoulder LOL
I dont seem to have a problem with them anymore.

I was training one of my dogs on Purdue campus one day (I used to take her to some classes with me) and people were mingling around the court yard and I corrected my dog and a PETA type person threatened me saying they were going to call the HS and take my dog. I put her on a down and said try and take her then we really got into it. My friends now call me Karate Karmen with the Kung Foo Grip (thanks CL). No I don't know Karate but this guy sure did bring the worst out in me. They never attempted to touch her and after our altercation left without anymore words on me correcting my dog.
These people need to go after the big animal abuse problems instead of harassing me while training my dog.
