We will eventually allow associate members but first we have to establish a core group of regular members....
I talked to you about 2 months ago when you told me about this club starting up. I don't have a dog yet, but I still want to become involved in the sport and learn more before I make the jump to owning and training my own dog. I live about 45 minutes away so traveling there is not a big deal. Just keep me posted about start up meetings and when they will be. Sundays sound like they would work pretty well.
We plan on approaching our training group exactly like Kevin does in NM. We have no interest in making money from the group.
Members can have training videos for nothing. We will offer help in learning how to work their dog.
In the 1990 Cindy took a doberman female to the Schutzhund USA nationals. Her x-husband has been on 5 world teams and won the Schutzhund USA Nationals. I only say this to emphasis that she has a lot of experience. She is a excellent dog trainer and has a lot to offer new dog handlers. Hell she has a lot to offer experienced dog trainers.
We expect the core members to be serious dog trainers. Cindy and I both have opinions on how the dogs we work will trained. Our core members will be expected to follow these training methods. We want to help people get the most out of their dogs and still maintain a relationship with their dog. It's iportant to both of us that the dog and the handler have a close bond.
I will never have a members dog go through obedience and act like this is the last place in the world it wants to be.
We expect our dogs to be able to play with their handlers. We expect our member dogs to be hapopy working dogs. We want a dog to demonstrate a solid grip in play before its put on the helper.
We expect a handler to demonstrate a dog that WANTS TO COME BACK TO THE HANDLER after the sleeve or tug has been slipped.
New trainers dont have to know how to do this but they will be expected to accept these goals as the foundation of their training.
Remember Cindy... I am very good at retrieving beers so long as you trade me the opener for a beer!
If I moved there I would have to use a clicker just to annoy Ed though. I even have a couple courtesy of the NC highway patrol... "click it or ticket" is printed on them! (my dad had a bunch in his truck and didn't know what they were )
