I have been socializing my 3month old GSD since he was 8 wks old by weekly visits to the local kindergarten class. This does two things for us, it socializes him and lets the kids watch a puppy grow up and develop into a well mannered dog. It has worked great so far, the dog is very well mannered around little kids and its been great PR for my dept. Has anyone else out there done anything similar with thier dogs?
This is a great idea! Just watch the kids like a hawk (children can be very nasty) and keep the sessions short. Don't expect your dog to sit still and be the center of attention for more than a few minutes at a time. Overdoing it can tire him and thus be counterproductive. Watch out for any signs in your dog that he is getting frustrated, antsy or weary and remove him.
Again congrats on the idea! And congrats to the teacher too!
Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.
